Brookside #2
Well, the aerating has been just about complete on this course and it's in PHENOMENAL shape! Another week, and when they "mow" and "roll" these greens (which hold well BTW) they will be "slicker" than all get up!
Fairways are excellent as well. Beverage cart needs to be MORE visible though, didn't see her until the 12th...!!!! I think that she might be out on BOTH courses tho...hmmm.....
Regardless, this course is the "best [public] deal in town" with TONS of heritage and real maturity with some great scenery as well, (to say nothing of the great shape it's in)....Love this course and will be playing it regularly,....until it gets too hot that is...!!!!

Greens aerated
The courses greens were aerated with no notification.

fairways are rough at places, sand trap are hard... but the greens are in good condition.

Decent value for the money if you get a deal through GolfNow.com.
There are 2 courses here at Brookside. #1 is longer and more challenging. #2 is shorter, but can be fun. I played #2 a couple of days ago.
It's always a busy course, so I was expecting the pace of play to be kind of slow and over 4 and 1/2 hours, which it was. The starter at window #2 was a bit rude and blunt to say the least. Maybe he wasn't having a good day. As for the course, it's average I suppose. The front 9 has 8 par 4's and 1 par 3. So not much variety. The fairways, rough, bunkers, and green are fairly well maintained with a few rough patches here and there (typical for most public courses).
The snack bar for the #2 course was closed and away from the main clubhouse, so that was a bummer. If you want refreshments, make sure to get it before you head out to play. The bar cart person wasn't able to reach us until our 15th hole.
Will most likely play here again in the future (#1 or #2), especially if there are more GolfNow deals.

Slow Play as Always
Brookside is notorious for its slow pace of play. The reason being they let off 5-somes thinking that this will accommodate more players, but in reality it slows play drastically. I frequently see 5 players with 5 carts not playing ready golf, 2 groups per hole....That's 10 players per hole, 15 on a par 5. Expect to spend at least 5 hours on the course, no matter what time of the day. Beware of errant tee shots and don't expect a "fore," most players don't know enough enough about golf to warn you if a ball is heading towards you. Occasionally you will play with some fun people. The course is usually maintained well for a public course and the greens usually roll well. Only if the round time was reduced to a reasonable rate, I would play Brookside more often.

Greens were punched.
Overall it was a good day course needs some maintenance and the green were punched, no fun putting in those conditions.

Vintage SoCal Course
This course was such a pleasure to play, there is something for everyone! Greens were being aerated and in their first week, (unfortunately), that wasn't disclosed on GolfNow (BTW!) but that aside, this course was EXCEPTIONAL! Fairways were really groomed well, and a pleasure to hit approach shots off of, sand was in good shape, (big) trees everywhere (as mother nature intended!), carts are new and in excellent shape, as well as beverage carts patrolling frequently. Oh yeah, the starter (Irene) is the "hottest" starter I have EVER SEEN at a golf course before! ALL the staff are super friendly too.
The greens, I could tell are really great greens, some small targets, with undulation, and I'm sure after the aeration completes, they will be REALLY FUN to putt on and WILL hold EXCEPTIONALLY well! They hold shots that are dropped on them even in their current condition! I can only imagine just HOW MUCH BETTER they'll be in the coming weeks. I know I'll find out, as I expect to repeatedly play this course over and over again.
The 19th hole is great too, plenty of big screen T.V.'s, spacious, with EXCELLENT food. The bartender Pedro, knows his stuff too, (most important!) lol. The pro-shop has some really great deals as well, I bought a dozen Titleist ProV-1's for $20! "UNHEARD OF"!
...all that aside, the course was in excellent shape (aside from aerating greens, which is just temporary) and the course is a REALLY FUN track to play that has it all, no kidding! I had a 'blast' and all UNDER 3 1/2hrs! ENJOY!

five some ? Are kidding me?
Course is not bad , but because its over crowded it makes it very annoying and not fun...
Staff could of been a little friendlier...

nice course not hilly.
I've played the other Brookside course and was surprised that this course was not very difficult. They told me it was narrower and more difficult, but to me it was very nice. A couple of the greens were more challenging, but this made it more enjoyable.

Slow play
It took 5 hours to play 12 holes. Never finished. Par 3's backed up with 3 to 4 groups

Solid Golf Course
Brookside 1 is a solid golf course. It is treelined and primarily flat. You must drive the ball well and hit good approach shots to be successful here. You will be hitting long iron approaches on most par 4s if you play from the golds or blues. An enjoyable yet challenging test of golf for a low-handicapper.
This course best suits a better player, however mid-handicappers may still be able to enjoy a round. High handicappers may want to play an easier course.
Fairways were in good condition. Rough was well distinguished. Greens were good in speed and reasonablly smooth. Tee boxes were reasonable but not level at times.
February 20, 2013
Poor features
Fairways are in bad condition, and there are no marshalls so golfers are all over the place. When they let fivesomes out it only leads to slower play
February 20, 2013
Greens were in good conditions but the lakes were all drained out. Probably doing some winter maintenance.

Nice course with it's challenges.
Some of the cart paths were in horrible shape. Watch your back. Some of the fairways were in need of serious repair. Some of the greens were under serious repair with deep sand used as patches. The tee boxes were good. The yardage markers were right. Lots of trees but the grounds were well kept from their debris. The ruff was well trimmed and the greens featured proper trim. The sand traps were soft with the exception of two that I know of. The staff was nice and polite. The driving range for warm up was small and crowded and lacked tees. The practice put was full but nicely kept and fairly challenging. Parking had it's challenges but overall fine. I would not recommend this course for infrequent golfers. It's too challenging for that. We were a held up 5 some with a low level play 3 some in front. Tee time announcements were load and clear with patience. Overall, a nice place to play some serious golf.

I like the course and the area alot.
I birdied the first hole after I have not played this course for years. I think I prefer the longer course but when I booked it on line I wasn't sure which course I was going to play. Next visit will try the longer course. As for the green it was harder on the back nine to read and my short game didn't really quite went well. Over all the tees and greens are fine better than the courses in the valley.

NEED MAINTENANCE
need to improve the fairway condition. other than that its ok to play
January 31, 2013
Course was nearly unplayable
Course was torn up, nearly unplayable.. Rose bowl parking has done a number on this course.
January 27, 2013
Course #1 I played, green condition is good, but some fairways have lot of divots and dirt.
When I once checked it with my tee time 6:37 am, Starter said I have no tee time at 6:37 am. I showed my confirmation but still do not have tee time at that time. Anyhow she get me in with same price that I booked. I usually don't have this problem with golfnow. but not this time. you better check your system.
Thank you ,

Excellent views for value.
Park golf is much more enjoyable than the newer courses winding between Mcmansions in the suburbs. Playtime will run long on weekends.

fair
I like this course.
But I'd like recommand,
when the player does tee shot, the working crue needs to stop the machine.

A rating of poor is being too kind to describe the conditions at this course.
The conditions at this course were the worst of ANY golf course that I have ever played. Mud and lack of grass in many of the fairways made this course almost unplayable. What was the most upsetting is that I saw no posted signs stating that there was construction work on the course. I will never return. The pictures that are attached to this review are of hole 18.

Good, but slooooow....
I like this course, the staff, the closeness to my house and the back drop of the Rose Bowl but....the let fivesomes play and the marshall doesn't seem to keep the pace up so we started a round at 12:30 on a December day and only played 15 holes before it got dark!!! Go at your own risk!

Its a legend
Played 2 days after UCLA vs Stanford football game at Rose bowl so fairways were pretty chewed up due to the fact that Brookside Golf Course acts as a parking lot for all Rose Bowl games. Greens were challenging( left alot a putts out there.), tee boxes fair condition, though You have to kinda look beyond its outer looks and look at its inner beauty and history, meaning Like old Pasadena its been around for awhile and it is a Legend of a golf course.
November 27, 2012
too croudy
booked 3 sum 9:00 am for #1.
they booked 2 sum with us saying super busy.
too croudy and didn't have ball cleaning stand and what so ever.
fair round with 5 and half hour rounding.
November 23, 2012
no hot deal
It's been better to close front 9 holes and 16,18th. Maybe apolozy due to last night rain. I think this course should have not received golf fee.Unfortunately I had hot deal booked by Golf now, no way at that time. Even worse ,STARTER was unkind because of hot deal (?) no due on course . First hole was wide open but no call till complained after the scheduled tee off time was 20minutes passed. No more send hot deal information to me
November 20, 2012
great value course was in good condition pace of play ok
this is a great value about half the rack rate
with a starting time before noon there was easily enough time to finish the round
the golf course was in good shape considering the the preparations for the usc - ucla game the following day
compared to 10 or 15 years ago it is a much more challenging course with the added strategic bunkering and tee locations
one note your rating system with bar graphs - click and drag - does not work very well
November 17, 2012
Too busy? or just plain ridiculous?
Teed off at 12:30pm on Wednesday, took little over 3 hours on front nine, of course we couldn't finish the round because by they time we got to 14th, it was too dark to play. Golf course sends out 5soms back to back. Complete waste of time and money playing there.
November 15, 2012
Convinient course due to its location close to the metropolis, but not a good value.
Course #1 is definitely more interesting to play than course #2. Tee boxes and fairways need a little more maintenance. However the pace of the course is its worst feature. Weekends are always packed and takes easily more than 5 hours to finish. $70 for weekends is outrageous, but still gets packed.
November 11, 2012
Too slow..
Took 3.75 hours fininshing 10 holes. Yes, 10 holes!. Ruining sunday afternoon. They said junior's tournament made rounding slow. But If they couldn't handle tournament they should do about the rounding pace or should let golfer know about the delay.
November 5, 2012
Slow pace of play.
Good clubhouse restaurant. Pace of play is slow, with at least a couple of groups backed up on most holes. Some putting greens needed repair. Most holes are straight drives. Hard to finish in twilight.
