Center City Golf Course 2.6 5 26 26
good value for the money I like center city golf course. It does need attension here and there all the time ,but small greens and chalenging approch shots make it a fun course. You will use all the clubs in your bag and I like that.If you can play well at this course it will help you to play anywhere i recomend it. March 12, 2013
The front nine are better I have never had to wait at this course, so why do they make golfnow customers ride together since no one else is there? The front nine holes have better fairway coverage but a couple holes on the back nine have dirt fairways. I have never found my drive off of the 13 tee box because its uphill 275 yards before you find grass. March 1, 2013
Priced Right - If you're picky you won't like this course. This quirky little course is surprisingly challenging. Several holes are target greens that you don't want to miss. Likewise, the slopes on some fairways are tricky. Several areas are dry & bare - you can get into these real easily if you don't knock it straight. Most fairways are fairly tight. Par 3s are mixed variety. Greens are surprisingly nice, but had to be approached tight. Overall, the sparsity of nice fairway grass is offset by the level of challenge and decent greens. You can easily score some birdies in the same round with a quad or two. It was definitely a fun trial. NO WAIT AT ALL TO PLAY ON SUNDAY 10:00. Can't beat the value/challenge combination. The greens are in great shape. Overall I enjoyed playing the course. It is a shot par 66 so the driver stayed in the bag most of the time. I like that I had to think more about my shot and pick the right club to lay up off the tee. The fairways are in poor shape. Not very much grass to hit off of and what is there is dead. The greens were awesome. Smooth like glass and plenty of elevation changes made putting very challenging but fun. Overall for 20 bucks I will be back to play it again. February 24, 2013
Great old course! Fairways need work. Many bare spots and dried-out areas. February 23, 2013
different golf experience You need to play this course at least once, bot fun and frustrating February 23, 2013
Bad Course Conditions They barely have grass on this course. I got on for $5 with a cart so I cant complain much. They charge $23 on weekday with a cart which is still too expensive. Thank god for golfnow because $5 is all im willing to pay to play there. February 21, 2013
Course needs attention but low cost and fun Sister and I played this course. Gave two stars for price and ease of getting around. Don't expect much...just have fun for really cheap and getting better at short game. February 15, 2013
More Gophers then...... A very hard course for a beginner like me. Tons of hills and rough terrain. For the price you cant bet it. Grounds are neglected but I expected that. February 7, 2013
Is it still a fairway if there is more dirt than grass? This course was in sad condition. I say sad because you can see the potential of the course, and can't help but wonder how great it once was. The layout of the course is challenging for a Par 62. Unfortunately though, the place was in major disrepair. When teeing off on a hole where you could not see the green, it was nearly impossible to tell where you should be aiming. The fairways were almost nonexistent. The greens were ok for the most part, sadly on hole 7 I think it was, someone had carved some sort of message into the green. I've never seen a green tagged before. Anyhow, I did have a little fun and found some of the holes to be quite challenging. I don't think I will be going back however. February 6, 2013
You get what you pay for... I used to play "Goat Hill" back when it was a 9 hole course so I'm quite familiar with the terrain, quirks, etc. If you're expecting a course with lush fairways and outstanding amenities you're at the wrong place. Goat Hill is a favorite among locals because of it's casual atmosphere, cheap price and ultra-challenging...let's say... conditions. It does not reward great shots, the greens are unpredictable and, if you walk you're in for a workout. However, it has a driving range, two putting greens (one on which you can practice your pitches) and you will have a good time no matter how well or badly you played. I checked "yes" as far as recommending to a friend for those hackers like me who are looking for a deal. For those of you who work on your game, are trying to get better and are looking for a nice course I would not recommend it. February 6, 2013
Run Down I lost so many balls in the fairways because the course is not kept up and its hard to locate your ball between everything that falls from the trees and 75% dirt and 25% grass fairways. Cart paths are more like 4X4 off road adventures. You can play a round for cheap but I wouldn't say its worth it. February 2, 2013
Course Needs a TON of Help This is the most ghetto golf course I've ever played on in my life. Nevermind the dudes in cut off jeans and take tops that are allowed to play because we paid $12 for the round, that's just the type of place it is which is fine. Its the condition of the course that blows my mind. I wouldn't pay $10 to play this frustrating course again, EVER. I don't mind the challenge of having to green it from 160 yards away. What I do have a problem with is never being able to find my ball if my shot is unsucessful, due to the overgrowth of grass clumps and the abundance of squirrel holes. They are literally everywhere you look which makes finding a ball that was hit short or pulled right to be nearly impossible to find. Frustrating is the best word to describe this course and like I said, not because its a tough course. So anyway, after 8 penalties taken because I couldn't locate my Taylor Made and nearly 5 hours later, we were off Goat Hill for good. Thank God. January 21, 2013
Past it's time - needs extensive work Have played this course often in past years, and it was never really in great shape, but was challenging and fun for the price and a good way to practice your short game. Have not played it since about 4 years ago, but decided to take an "easy" golf day after a few days of full on golf courses and were disapointed to find it has gone down hill in a huge way. They have upgraded the greens, but the rest of the course is like playing in a gravel pit. Especially #12 - which used to have at least minimal grass on the "fairway" (and I use the term very loosely - there is nothing fair about it). There is absolutely no grass on it until you get to with in about 50 yards of the green, and as it is a sloping rock hard lead up to the green, unless you are a very very long hitter, you have absolutely no chance of your ball doing anything but roll back to the cart path and bounce either over a fence where it cannot even be retrieved or continue down to where the ladies tee box is. Similiar conditions, although not quite this bad exist on almost all the holes. We will never go back, even at the low smoking deal price we got of $19.98 for the two of us, including the cart. It is not worth the aggravation. We stopped playing after 14 holes and decided our time would be better spent doing something else, as what we were playing there certainly did not resemble golf as we know it. This course has great value for under $10 I paid $8.00 for my green's fee and at this course I would not pay more than $12.00. The course was great for my friends and I as we are all novice level and are usually happy if we boogie or double boogie a hole. The first 9 holes were not that bad, definitely not country club quality but there was grass on the course that was (mostly) alive, few traps, and overall solid play. The back 9 had half the holes had grass, the others were dirt , no grass, no nothing, just hitting in dirt. Also, the green's were extremely fast, probably due to lack of upkeep. If you can find a deal to play the course for under $15 dollars, I would do it as golf is an expensive sport. But I would not pay more than that to play this course as the back 9 were terrible. January 17, 2013
Very hilly. Grass is scarce and what little grass there is, is in poor shape. A lot of squirrels and rabbits. Gopher holes everywhere! Still fun tho! They call it Goat Hill for a reason! Only paid $5 ea with a cart. Fun as long as your expectations aren't too high. January 15, 2013
This course is not for beginners Nice course for a good golfer but as a beginner of golf (like me), you lose lots of balls. But when I approved me golf skills, I'll be back. I should say, that the condition of the course is not the best and needs a little bit more attention but if you see it in relation to the price then the course is absolutely ok.....and I definitely recommend this course ! January 8, 2013
Hidden gem This course is underrated (slope rating). The nickname 'Goat Hill' is well deserved because of the extreme elevation changes on many holes. I would usually overpower a short course, but this one defends itself very well. I have to dial it down to score well here. Great place to practice your short game, uneven terrain shots, and precision shots. Also a great place to build up your handicap. It's really hard to post a low score here when compared with the slope rating. January 3, 2013
OK course Kind of confusing to get around. not a lot of grass on fairways on some holes. wind really makes some of the holes challenging which was nice. carts weren't in the best condition. overall an alright experience but the course condition needs to improve. November 5, 2012
This course may have been nice at some point? My dissatisfaction began off the first tee...straight drive that landed in the "fairway" (and by fairway I mean..."dirt") and then rolled and rolled and rolled and rolled down the steep hill and out of bounds. A constant throughout the round. In fact, there is very little that even resembles a fairway on any of the holes (no grass). The cart path that links all of the "beautiful" holes together looks like it was made in the 60's and left my back in shambles. To top it all off...the cart's brakes could not handle the hills and bumps very well...and eventually it even ran out of the juice on the 15th...forcing me to abandoned it. An interesting experience at any price (not that I will be returning)...bottom line, I wish I had spent a little more money and played a real golf course. Lesson learned... November 4, 2012
It is good course is fun It is very close greens are kept up its has 18 hole that are chandelling holes good practice area October 5, 2012
Old City course that is a par 66. Greens are normally in good condition City course that is a par 66. Fairways and rough are very rough. Greens are normally in great shape. You can play a round in 2.5 hours or less. For the price esprcially through golf now a good course to stay on your game. October 5, 2012
Ever play golf in a cow pasture? City Center at Goat's Hill is a unique golfing experience. The fareways are rough, often void of grass. The course is very hilly requiring many blind shots. The greens are in good condition. You will experience many gofers and squirrels and contend with their burrows and mounds during the day. The price is great and the staff is friendly. The breezes off the Pacific provide a welcome relief on hot summer days. The course is poorly marked...I was lost twice. You will share the course with frisbee golfers. Clubhouse ammenities are minimal. With all the shortcomings, we had a a fun time and laughed a lot. October 5, 2012
Fun and quick This course is challenging, target greens and fairways, missing a fairway can be a tragic event. Very up and down play, course is hilly, but very fun, especially with a friend and beer. Careful with that driver, Eugene. October 4, 2012
Lowest rates in North San Diego County Played here for years. Great place to walk nine & get plenty of exercise & hit your driver. October 4, 2012
Long Executive Course: Link style target golf with multiple-elevations Known as "Goat Hill", this course is extremely challenging and the best deal in San Diego, as long as you don't mind the inconsiderate frisbee golfers. Golf is a gentleman's game with rules of etiquette and consideration. Frisbee golfers don't play by the same rules, so sometimes it can get a little frustrating when they cut across the fair way when you tee off. I'm one that can put up with it because the course is so much fun. If you're not a good shot, this course is not forgiving so bring a lot of balls if you're a weekend hacker. The greens are small but very well maintained throughout the year. I recommend this course if you want to work on your game, have a fun day and not worry about perfect course conditions.
