Whether catching the greenery of the day or the evening`s twinkling lights, Bay Area drivers have long enjoyed the sight of the Oakland hills above San Francisco Bay. Golfers who have discovered Lake Chabot Golf Course up in those hills have delighted in tremendous views of the greater Bay Area, along with a quiet setting, plentiful wildlife and one of the most uniquely challenging and affordable courses in the region.

The course, which dates from 1923, measures nearly 6,000 yards over its par-72 layout. The finishing hole, an astonishing par-6 downhill beauty of 673 yards, can roll your ball right up to a double eagle with the help of a straight shot and dry weather. On No. 15, panoramic views await you of the Bay Bridge, downtown San Francisco and downtown Oakland. This gem of a public course is not to be missed.

a lot of topography good value for the money - very convenient - no rush September 13, 2014
Could be better Course was fine...quirky with better than average muni maintenance. Some interesting holes and spectacular views. Biggest complaint was the pace of play (especially for mid-day Thursday) and lack of action taken by the marshal...didn't even seem to understand that we were waiting on every shot...often 3 groups standing together on the same tee box. When I finally left after hole 16 because it was taking so long, I saw one of the 4 groups on the 18th hole had 6 players and 5 carts. I'd blame the poor level of play and excessive drinking I witnessed, but this seemed to be primarily a course management issue. I won't go out of my way to return. September 12, 2014
The greens were fantastic After playing some other courses in the last few weeks, I was pleasantly surprised at the wonderful condition of the greens. The rest of the course was in it's usual good condition, though the blue tee areas were in bad condition. September 8, 2014
Nice Course, Very Different, Hills and Tress Galore Overall, Had a good day out. It was very busy on a Saturday. We had a 3 some, and got paired with a single. Hate that, but the guy was awesome, so it worked out. As, for the course, if its your first time there dont expect a good score. Its a fun spot to golf, but more like golfing on a mountain. The par six 18th is fun, I birdied, but that hill is like golfing down a mountain side, and if you can get that hill right, it will roll all the way down. I recommend that Carlottas Cafe on the course before the par 3, It was the best hot dog of my life. Staff was friendly, and a fun place to play overall. Also beware when you drive your car the clubhouse, the road goes through about 6 holes, watch for people hitting and drive fast lol. September 7, 2014
Great layout, one of my favorite courses Once the five-some ahead of us waived us thru on the second hole, the two of us zoomed thru the course in just under 3 hours. The greens are in excellent condition, the fairways are spotty in a few places, but with the drought conditions, expected. September 6, 2014
A picturesque course Very impressed with the friendly staff, especially Mike Clewis and the folks in the pro shop. Their enthusiasm about their workplace was catching. It convinced me I will be returning here with my golf buddies soon. September 5, 2014
Great Course With the water shortage in California, the Course is in considerably in great shape. Nice to take friends to experience the mammoth 18th hole! the water shortage in California, the Course is in considerably great shape. September 2, 2014
pace of play/staff friendliness We found and signed up for an amazing online rate ($29 per player w/cart). However we were not told it was because we would be following a very slow tournament. When we reach the massive log jam at the third tee box, the marshall, realizing their error, told us to cut over to the 13th tee, ahead of the tournament, because the back 9 was wide open. Had they not suggested that, we would have been stuck with a 6 hour round. Thanks for looking out for us and letting us enjoy our day! August 26, 2014
