Whether catching the greenery of the day or the evening`s twinkling lights, Bay Area drivers have long enjoyed the sight of the Oakland hills above San Francisco Bay. Golfers who have discovered Lake Chabot Golf Course up in those hills have delighted in tremendous views of the greater Bay Area, along with a quiet setting, plentiful wildlife and one of the most uniquely challenging and affordable courses in the region.

The course, which dates from 1923, measures nearly 6,000 yards over its par-72 layout. The finishing hole, an astonishing par-6 downhill beauty of 673 yards, can roll your ball right up to a double eagle with the help of a straight shot and dry weather. On No. 15, panoramic views await you of the Bay Bridge, downtown San Francisco and downtown Oakland. This gem of a public course is not to be missed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by It's a little beat up, but greens are solid. Par 6! It was cool to play the Par 6 and the greens were overall in decent shape. The pace of play was really slow due to the course allowing 3 groups of 5 on the course in front of us. Other than that it was a good time. Hole 1 under repair show it really plays as a Par 3 vs. a Par 4. October 1, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great course, friendly staff Pretty well kept course. Went on a tuesday so it was relatively empty, staff was nice and courteous, however, food was a little on the expensive side. September 30, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Will be great... When course construction is finished. I was unaware when booking my tee time the course was currently under construction by hole #1. Course was in fair shape considering the drought, nice mix of elevation changes. My friend and I were lucky to be paired with a couple with course knowledge as a few holes were blind. Rated 4 out of 5 by Different than most courses in the area. Lots of slope that that makes that makes things interesting. Overall a fun course to play. Would have liked to warm up on a practice tee but it is being re- constructed and unavailable to use at this time. Nice views. The lady at the snack bar on the 13th... Great personality!! Rated 3 out of 5 by Good value for the price Course was in reasonable shape considering the drought. For the price this is a great value. There are some fun and interesting holes and great views. September 26, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by california drought The driving range is under construction. The fairways were hard, and dry due to the drought and it was a HOT day. The Tee areas and greens were in as good as shape as possible, maybe even better than possible. The staff was friendly, we didn't try the food. It is a hilly challenging course given the conditions. We would play it again September 21, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by another fun day at Lake Chabot Another fun day at Lake Chabot. It's always fun to play here due to : quick pace of play excellent value for money scenic views (can see SF) and interesting holes - par 180 par 3 from a 100' elevation and the mammoth PAR 6 18th. Note: they are renovating the practice facilities to allow drivers from range. so, 1st hole is playing as par 3 till work done. would recommend Lake Chabot anytime. p.s. they also have a fun, short par 3 course too! Rated 3 out of 5 by Up and down... and up and down... You'll struggle to find a course with more hills - the par 3 just after the turn is basically a lob wedge into the air, and see if it lands on the green - roughly 60ft below you. Some amazing views, and a well-kept course considering the lack of water around. I enjoyed it, would certainly play again, and hope that when the renovations are complete the course will play a little fairer! September 13, 2015
