For River Oaks Golf Club (formerly Rio La Paz), its biggest charm is its location and excellent golf value. Set near the Feather River, 17 minutes north of Sacramento off Highway 99 in Nicolaus, California, the course offers a chance to play golf in a peaceful, natural setting.

The par-71 course designed by Peter Jacobson, plays 6,505 yards from the black tees, 6,037 from the blues, 5,401 from the whites and 4,740 from the reds. Most of the fairways are wide and generous, but hitting approach shots onto the course's target greens will challenge low handicap players while providing a fair, enjoyable round of golf for all skill levels.

Good hidden gem I enjoyed playing here. The course was in good codition. The course was mostly green save for few patches here and there. The greens were smooth. They're a bit on the soft and slow side but we're consistent. The layout is nice as there are a number of par fours that aren't automatic driver holes. And the 10th is a great start to the back 9. It dog legs 90 degrees so it requires a well shaped drive. And that goes for a lot of the drives on the par 4s. You have to work the ball. The layout is challenging without being obnoxious. I'd definitely play here again. August 16, 2014
river oaks Nice course. I would compare it to Auburn golf club, dark horse, castle oaks as far as the condition of the course is concerned. Greens were nice and fluffy, do be aware, I noticed the cups were a bit raised (not level to green) on a couple of holes which makes you go towards them with a little umph. August 6, 2014
