General Old Golf Course 3.5 5 35 35
Good course, not incredible... would play again I had never played this course before and was neither over or under welmed by it. It is in decent condition but not amazing. Good course that I would play again but only if I got a good deal on it. April 3, 2013
Nothing too crazy here... The course was in decent shape. The tee boxes were good, fairways were in good shape, and greens were consistant. However, if you hit anywhere off the fairway (OB, or outside the first cut of the rough) you are hitting off of hard packed dirt or rock/gravel. The course is not to difficult to stay in-bounds, but it can play long. April 2, 2013
Nice greens, the rest of the course needs grass. Staff needs help with tee sheet.....groups of 5 (walking), 6, 4, 2, 2, 4 all waiting on each shot... Tee boxes had not been cut in a week, grass in fairways was very, very, very spotty. Greens were nice and the layout is fun, a lot of potential if they would put another 20 minutes of water into it each day. Pace of play was very good considering the cluster of bad groupings. We arived an hour before our tee time and they had us wait because they had a "few more groups ahead of us". I sat and watched an empty tee box for 30 minutes before asking if we were good to go and told that we could "fire away". We played the first 5 holes in about 45 minutes (we were just 2 and had a good streak of finding each shot) then we caught up to a 4 some that never waited after putting out or waived us up on a par three to let us play through. Annoying, but they were obviously locals that knew the course and played fast We finished the front nine in about 1:30 even waiting on each shot for the last 4 holes. Very quick pace. Then the back nine came and at about hole 11 we saw a group of high school golf team members waliking in a 5-some two holes ahead. I am all for kids playing, but 5 walking on a public course at 11 seems stupid. Then we saw the group of 6......yes, 3 carts with two players in each cart, behind them and two group ahead of us.....back nine took 2:45 minutes and there was not a hint of any staff monitoring the pace of play or the groups playing together on the course. The 6 did not even bother pretending to break into two group coming up 18 and all 6 of them putted out right next to the club houses and then walked in and sat together at the bar, no one on staff said a word to them. A real shame, a fun little course that is playable and could be so good with a tiny bit of management. A little more water and someone that cares about pace of play and course etiquette could really turn this into a gem. March 19, 2013
poor fairways a lot of bare ground and dirt everwhere. greens werent toobad.pace of play was good and staff was nice March 12, 2013
Beautiful setting and view! First time we played there. Nice course, flat or gently rolling terrain. Enjoyed watching the large military transports taking off and landing at the adjoining March Air Reserve Base. February 28, 2013
Good value. Course well maintained. For the money a good deal. February 26, 2013
Be prepared to wait. I know its winter but the front was pure "hard pan"; the back was a little greener. Play was atrociously slow--no marshall--and we waited after nearly every shot. It appears everybody stops for lunch at the turn and we all wait in line. Frustrating. Greens are in good shape and a real challenge with a few really tough pin placements. February 18, 2013
Good Greens All in all a pretty good deal. I would definitely play here again. February 14, 2013
Well supplied Pro Shop and BAR. Good Food. Course is well maintained. It could be much better if some of our fellow golfers would take the time to fix their divots on the greens! What happen to fix yours and at least one more when on the green. Enough venting. General Old is one of my favorite courses and is really shiny since the remodel. The entire building is first class and the staff including the kitchen staff are always friendly. Keep up the good work. February 14, 2013
Season made grass brownish Everything was good except for the young kid at the check-in counter. He has no people skill at all. We paid at the front desk and he did not even gave us keys for the cart. When we asked him for the keys of the cart, he asked us back "do you need carts?" We booked at Golfnow.com and says carts included. He asked us what time is our tee time and we gave him both our teetime and names according to what we always use at Golfnow.com. and yet asked us so many questions like haow many are you where in fact we all four were there standing in front of him, which of course we already told him. He sounded so sarcastic everytime he talked to us. Not sure his name was but seems to be Tim. He even started us late, approximately twenty minutes from our teetime. One thing good was the Marshall, he was more of an elderly guy which started us immediately as he could. Very kind and professional. We had a great short conversation a hole 1. He even came out somewhere at the back nine to see how we were doing. Overall, it was a great experience except for that young guy that I think the golf course management should put him somewhere away from customers. February 3, 2013
Always enjoy playing this course I haven't played the course in quite a while. They had made changes to the course. But as always it was great golf. January 20, 2013
Great place to hit a round for golfers of all skill levels. Very open and friendly staff, other players here seem to be relaxed and not pushy, the course is somewhat challenging, nice and long for long ballers, the greens were outstanding! I do wish the fairways were a little better quality, but for the price it has been a nice place to play. January 16, 2013
Great round for the value Enjoyed my round and will be teeing up at this course again. January 15, 2013
Nice course Old general is a nice course. The wide open design is nice for people like me who have massive hook shot. You can drive your ball far off the fairway and not have to worry about being on some other hole. The condition of the grass is fair. The bunkers are nice and raked. I love playing the Old General. January 8, 2013
General Old Delivers I have playing General Old for many years. The course has historically been in fairly good shape but it has had it's up and downs. Right now the greens are in very good shape. The fairways are in OK shape but some bare spots are starting to appear and need attention. The sand traps are also in need of some fresh sand as there are many of them. They have only a thin layer of sand over the underlying dirt. Overall I would recommend as of today. January 6, 2013
Nice Greens and New Club House Friendly place to play. Really nice value for your money. not many hills but plays long. January 5, 2013
The Greens are fast & smooth. Good value, course is in nice condition for this time of year. December 23, 2012
Best bang for your buck in the IE!! Booked a mid-day Saturday tee time at the last minute and surprisingly found the course not too crowded, thus my round took less than 3.5 hours. Greens are in excellent shape, but the fairway grass in several spots, looks winter-challenged, but still very playable. The staff, as I've always experienced, was very accomodating. December 23, 2012
Open field, forgiving, and fun practice course I've been golfing here for year now, and the course I always up and down but ultimately it is really fun to play. Some of the best greens, and really good looking club house, but they shouldn't have started to raise the golf fees because they might have reconstructed the club house, but the course is still the same... Maximum value to play and feel like you weren't robbed, $35 bucks, you pay anymore and you might feel like you could of played elsewhere and actually seen a well kept beautiful green course. Still love this place...when price is right December 22, 2012
My son is home on leave from the Army,so we played the course. It was fun! The golf experience at Gen Olds course was great. The course well maintained.Fairways wide, and the greens were great. The course employees were and staff were polite and helpful. I will play this course often. December 15, 2012
Fairway is not maintained nicely. I live not a far from this course but I would not go there and play golf often. The first reason that I do not want to be there is, they do not know how to greet to customers- starting from Kikki. The second, fairway is bad. Third, all the players that I played with the day said, Tee box areas are just about all very uneven-I thought the same. I select General Old Golf Course if there's no other similar choices. November 27, 2012
The course has a great amount of history involved with not only the course but the surrounding land and the Air Force Base. General Old CC has evolved from a private Air Force course to a challenging public course. The clubhouse has been remodeled and the food service and accommodations are top notch. The staff seem very helpful and knowledgeable. The fairways are good, the greens are great although a bit slow, but the rough in many places needs improvement. They have good carts and the course is marked well for yardage. All in all a round there is a pleasant experience. November 20, 2012
Playing with the Generals Overall good course, fairways a little dry. Greens really slow, took some getting use to but everyone can make excusses for shooting bad some days. haha Last played this course about 8 years ago. Hasnt changed to much except theres no water in lakes. Some times thats a good thing. Lots of long holes. Plus the history of the course and it being next to a militay cemetery and myself being a Veteran as well. November 7, 2012
Good Layout: Rough Around the Edges I teed off at around 9:30 on a Sunday. Course conditions from tee to green were ok. The greens were good, but kept pretty wet due to the heat. Lots of fun holes and plenty of chances to hit driver. November 6, 2012
Fun course to play. Nice driving range, new club house and course is still a great place to just go out and have a fun day playing your favorite sport. November 6, 2012
Enjoyable round of golf. Fun round of golf. Price was right. Had the front 9 to ourselves. Conditions of course well worth the money and drive from So. OC.. November 4, 2012
Tender Loving Care was missing from this golf course. Weedy grass, dry areas off fairway, fairways not cut close, sand bunkers like rocks. Good location for trees and if behind them you lose a stroke as cannot approach the green from treed areas. In general, the course condition was poor and I wish I had selected another course last week. November 4, 2012
Good Layout Good course layout, greens are in good condition, but fairways are sparse. Great Breakfast Burrito! October 30, 2012
Good, Solid, Somewhat Challenging Course March doesn't have a bunch of bells and whistles, but, especially for a public course, it's a great course for players of all levels. They take great care in making sure the course is always in above average shape and the difficultly level is perfect for pretty much anyone. It's likely that few people would go low over all 18, but I would doubt that anyone would blow up their scorecard either. It's a very nice combination of being open enough that you won't lose many ball, but still difficult enough that if you start spraying it all around you're not going to be shooting that low. For the value, it's really hard to beat. October 25, 2012
Great layout and in good condition General Old course is staffed by a friendly and accomodating staff. The course has a great lay out and is very challenging from the blue tees. The food in the clubhouse is great and eveyone I have met playing there has been fun to golf with. pace of play can be a struggle on weekends and fridays.
