Big horn sheep made the day
La Quinta is an area of the valley very close to the mountains...or tall rocky hills for those of you from Colorado. The course can be beautiful and tough if you play from the back tees. Greens needed water as all of the desert does.
The lack of water and the canal must have spawned the insects which rarely are an issue in the desert. they didn't bite only annoyed what could have been an excellent experience.
Feels like a private resort and staff acted accordingly. Go and have fun especially when you are all alone next to one of the valley's biggest residents...a male bighorn led his band of seven down the hill at 16th green to 17th tee....amazing that they fear not...GREAT MOMENT

Good with GREAT potential
Very nice staff and a great layout. Pace of play was torture. Putting was consistent from green to green. The course was in good shape and the traps, I saw too many, were very well maintained.

Was very surprised to see how wet and soggy this course was considering we have had no rain and it is located in the desert. The greens were very bumpy with some dead spots causing inconsistent rolls.

Beautiful and challenging!
We played SilverRock early to help beat the heat and unusual humidity in the desert. Pace of play was great and the course was in very good condition for summer time. Did not visit the restaurant, but there was a cart gal who made the rounds frequently. Back nine is more challenging and temps are much hotter against the rocks - they may want to consider putting folks out on the back nine first .

Normally great conditions but in preparation for the heat greens have been recently Aerified . That was not a big deal but the fairways were so wet you felt like you were doing damage driving a cart on them . Tough unless you can pick your irons splat if you don't . One temporary green that was just being Aerified pro shop said nothing about this but the price was discounted . Always a fun course I smile sure in a week or 2 conditions will be fantastic . Fairways are very wide on most but not all holes . Lots of bunkers protecting the large greens . Pretty views as much of the course hugs the mountains . Typically you will see some desert Bighorn Sheep grazing on the back nine as I did Sunday . Staff is always nice food is very good and fast .

I get that it's summer and that we are in a drought and that they need to aerify to maintain the turf, but wow, what a disappointment after really enjoying this course on our trip at the same time last year. They seem to have poorly managed the watering - the course was soggy in most areas and completely parched in the rest. The greens were awful - Dustin Johnson would have five-putted some of the greens. Overall, not worth the time to play it. Won't be back.

Course was rough due to aerification and wet conditions. Price was adjusted to match conditions. The biggest complaint is the amount of sand in the traps. After each sand shot, I needed to take off my shoes and empty the sand out of them. I look forward to playing the course when it is in good condition.
