PGA WEST® - TPC Stadium Course
One of my favorites
My favorite course in the desert and probably in the stop 5-10 of the hundreds I have played. Every hole has its own unique challenges. I look forward to playing each hole, and the round seems to go by very fast. Lots of forced carries from the blue or black tees, so bring your best game and/or lots of golf balls.

Great course but brutally difficult...Not at all forgiving of errant approach shots...Tight lies in fairways...

lots of bunkers. Definitely take your gps as there were none on cart as advertised by golfnow. Greens were not good as other courses played in area.

Play "Alcatraz" and other challenging holes
A brief bit of history before my review.
The PGA Tour played the Stadium Course at PGA West only once in 1987. The tour never returned after players signed a petition saying they'd never play it again. After playing the course recently, I have to ask why? While a challenging course, I have fared worse on others.
Here is what made the course challenging:
- Of the 4 par 3s, only one does not have water that comes into play.
- If you hit your ball into the thick rough that lines several holes (e.g. 1, 9, and 14 amoung others#, finding your ball may be more difficult that hitting it out.
- Several of the holes require hitting target areas.
As for the condition of the course, it appears that they aereated it in the past couple of weeks and were bumpy in a few spots. The greens were fast, but firm, so play less break than you think. Tee boxes, sand and fairways were in very good shape.
As for the food, I thought the half-way house had very limited options and the prices seemed off the charts #$4 for a Cliff Bar),
All of the staff at the course that I met up with were quite friendly and very welcoming.

For the skilled players
This course is for "golf nerds". If you are not a consisteny straight ball hitter you will find yourself endlessly floundering here. If you are a true golf nerd you will find what you are looking for here and must add this to your tract record.
I see many reviews pointing out the slow pace. I played the course at a fast pace and ended up passing three very out of place groups throughout the layout. I am not sure whether to conclude that the patrons and management alike are laxed at times (no one seemed to be angry and the three groups stopped to let us pass without is asking) or if this is something the management considers to be a serious problem that will be solved. if you come to the stadium you may encounter some very laxed vibes out here and you may end up having to pass some slow groups. Try not to let that ruin the experience of playing the legendary stadium course.
I will say once again you need to be able to hit straight here and place your shots. If you are not a true golf nerd you would likely have more fun at some of La Quinta, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage and Palm Springs easier tracks- don't worry, they are all beautiful just mostly far easier.

This course is great for the low handicap, high ball hitters...I found it had a few hidden surprises, but it was a great time...

Slowest Ever Round
Needs better marshaling for pace of play! Group I was with should not play a course such as this with its course rating. 15 mins plus just to get half way up the first fairway. From there....it only got worse!
