The Preserve at Saddlebrooke
Fair challenge for all levels of golfers
For a desert track, this course doesn't have excessive carries over washes and waste areas like some others in the Tucson area. A few holes require careful placement of your shot, which is difficult to do since the scorecard doesn't show the layout of the hole and the carts don't have GPS. I strongly recommend having a personal GPS if you want to enjoy your round. Several holes have elevation changes, and the wind also comes into play. The fairways were in good condition, but the speed of the greens was inconsistent. The rough was dormant. The practice area was nice and included a chipping area and bunker. I am a female who rarely breaks 100, but even though this course was challenging, it didn't beat me up, and it also proved a challenge for my husband who is a single-digit handicapper.

BYOB/Strict dress code
The course was nice and the scenery was amazing. There's only one place to get beer and that's in the pro shop before you start and at the turn. You cannot order food to go at the turn from the restaurant, so bring your own snacks. My buddy had a T-shirt under his coat and got turned away, though I can't fault them for this as it's in the rules when you book it. Just mentioning as some courses will let you slide if it's your first time there.
There were deer on the course, so that was pretty awesome as well.
They also made sure to impress on me that it is a semi-private course, but I'm not sure why that point was so important to get across.

One of the most beautiful courses in Tucson
So many holes had picturesque settings with the Catalina Mts providing the perfect backdrops. The winter grass was in now, so the contract between the very green fairways and the light brown rough was pleasant to the eye. The deer grazing on a few holes added to the appeal of this setting. The course offer plenty of challenge, but seemed fair on almost every hole. Having a yardage book would have been a good idea because I hit a few shots into places I didn't think I could reach, and one of them was a hazard. The only improvement I'd like to see is more sand in some greenside bunkers... a few had very hard packed sand. I definitely recommend this course and would certainly play it again.

My day at the preserve
The Preserve is attempting to water their grass into
health, but it isn't working. Yet? My ball plugged everywhere on a desert course. And what was once a really beautiful great course is now building perhaps a thousand houses on the back nine. I suppose this was inevitable, but has really ruined what was once great.

A Gem, tough but fair.
This is a gen in North Tucson. There are four sets of tees, unbelievably beautiful surroundings, tough but fair greens and a good value late in the afternoon.

So much potential, but...
Second and last time playing this course, for the same reason. Pace of play is horrible, round took 5+ hours and the course Marshal did nothing to speed things up. I understand that it may take a bit longer for our Seniors to play a round, but then the course shouldn't cram so many golfers into the schedule. Was also quite surprised that no beverage car (both times this has been the case) and the last time the snack bar / restaurant closed !
