Quarry Pines was in great shape from tee to green - fairways were sparse yet green

Green grass!
I travel full time since retirement, played in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona. The first real course in 4 months. Conditions could not have been better. You should not go through this area and not play this course! Have played for twice the money that were not this nice.

Always intriguing, in excellent condition
We've seen this course many times before. It is in substantially better condition now than in December. They had a full tee sheet on Easter Sunday afternoon which is a good sign. This is one interesting golf course, especially from the tips. Of course the back 9 in the quarry is stunning, but also there are quite a few interesting and/or challenging holes on the front (2,3,5,6,8). This course is very fair, there is sufficient room to drive the ball. The greens were perfect, they accepted properly struck shots, rolled fast and true and no bare spots. Please people, repair your ballmarks and keep 'em nice ! The fairways were also excellent, very few problem spots. Thanks to the Quarry Pines staff for running a great course at great prices !

Good course, good conditions
Good course for the money. The back nine is a little more challenging.

Very good condition, friendly, helpful staff, good pace of play. What's not to like.
Our foursome played at 8:15 and finished in 4 hours. Very good conditions, better than most moderately priced courses. Staff was friendly and helpful. The front 9 is flat and forgiving; the back 9 is neither.

Pace of play.
Pace of play was great. 3 3/4 hrs. Course was a little wet but in good condition

This course is good value for the dollar
Lots of different style of holes some very tough. The greens were in great shape.
A course that should be played more that once so you know where you might want to hit the ball as there is some blind holes.
Downfall if any is the road noise on the front nine.

Great day of golf
We really enjoyed this course. Probably best octopuses we golfed in Arizona.

Short but challenging
Great course for the money. Short in length but very fun and mentally challenging. The back nine is just flat out a great set of holes. Beautiful views and very unique. Whoever thought of putting a golf course in an old quarry had a great vision. Staff was great and pace of play on a weekend was just over 4hrs. I can't think of one negative

Challenging from the tips
From the back tees the course was challenging especially on the pars threes on the back nine. Fairways were very narrow on a few of the holes, but generally benign Lots of elevation changes on the back side. Front and back nines were like two different courses.

nice course
course in decent shape, great pace of play. Greens in good shape

great back nine
Front nine subdivision. Back nine goes through two quarries. Some great holes. Narrow fairways make course hard.

A great curse--back nine spectacular!
Prior reviews were critical of the pace of play but we played it in just slightly over 4 hours. Even had one of our group with a hole in one on #15. Fairways and greens in great shape. I highly recommend this track. You will find the back nine and its elevations spectacular.

this course had great views
We reallt enjoyed playing this course. I t a chalenging yet no so that a 25 handy cap could not enjoy. Value was better than Vistoso or the Hilton. We will be back next year

Back Nine was memorable!
What a gem! Overseeded, lush green roughs mowed to a fair height. Manicured airways with no parched spots. Testing greens that were true and maintained. Thoughtfully landscaped tee boxes. Sand traps could use better sand -- the only negative here. What a delightful afternoon.

This course is a keeper
My husband and I have played QP numerous times and really enjoy it. The course is always in great condition, the staff is friendly and accommodating, the people we have been paired with have always been nice.
There are elevation changes on every hole, most of the fairways are hilly and rolling, the greens are undulating. It is a fun course that we play every time we are in Tucson.
Thank you QP for a wonderful course!

Course is challenging, very tight fairways
The course is over rated for the price. Took over 5 hours to play 18. I would not golf this course again unless there are rules about very slow play. This is NOT a beginners course, you must be a handicap golfer to play it. Fairways are very tight, par threes are target golf.

Tough but fun to play!!
Great track. Score on the front nine. The back nine will eat your lunch!

I love the course.
Play was far too slow and the water stations were empty.

A test ... a FUN test of golf
This well-maintained course is really a tale of two nines. The front nine is more parkland and easier to play. It plays along the rim of a former quarry. The back nine, which winds its way down into, then back out of, the pit, is one challenging hole after another. It's much more target/desert golf, with forced carries and lots of unplayable lies or worse. Bring a few extra balls, because chances are you'll need them.
I played in 4.5 hours, so I didn't experience the problems other reviewers have with inordinate slow play. (I played on a Monday.)
This course reminds me of a kinder, gentler -- and much prettier -- Chambers Bay, another quarry course.

Coursemif fun to play and challenging

CCourse was in very good condition and was very interesting layout, quite scenice even thoughwithin city.

Beautiful views with a variety of easy to challenging holes.
Played in the afternoon and worried about finishing before dark; just made it. It is a popular course and can play slower than it should. The back nine is especially stunning with the dramatic landscape of the rock walls of the quarry, the desert foliage and fauna, and the sculptured greens nestled amongst it. There are a few challenging holes which maybe easier to handle playing the course a second time.

Suprise
What a course, after a good start on front 9 you go to differant course on back. The back is awsume and should not be missed in the Tucson area. Great greens, lush fairways.

Pace of Play a BIG issue
Three of us went to try this course out for the first time yesterday. I liked the layout as it was an interesting use of the terrain in an old quarry. The course isn't long and we played it from the tips. Demanding driving esp. with windy conditions. The turf overall is in really fine shape and it is obvious that they throw a lot of water down. Greens were moderate paced. The course would be really fun if they rolled the greens and cut them lower!
The major problem with the Quarry and the reason that I will not return (unless I motivated to get the first tee time of the day) is that the pace of play is way too slow. On one hand it is nice that they get so many golfers and are apparently cash flowing unlike many other facilities. However, the course is too hard for a higher handicap player and on the back nine there is some pretty big distance between holes.
We had to wait on every tee box on the front nine which is OK for a public track. However come the back nine and we got to the par 3 11th hole and there were four groups on the hole. It took us 15 minutes to tee off. The entire back nine was stacked like this and after 4.5 hours we bailed on the round after playing 15 holes. It would have been another hour to finish and darkness might have precluded such.
I spoke with several other golfers who said that this is a common occurrence at the Quarry. Caveat Emptor!

A nice course
Overall the course is fine. The back is definetly more course than the front. The bird droppings on the fourth green is just terrible. We could not putt on it from any position. I have seen fishing line strung across ponds to deter birds. It is your one bad mark. Overall a lot of fun to play.

Course was in great shape.
My husband and I played with another couple. The ranger watched us on every hole. When asked why, he said we were 35 minutes behind. Actually, we waited on the group in the front of us on EVERY hole. He did not watch that group (which were all men) once! We probably will never go back.

Terrific course layout; slow pace of play.
The course offers two distinct golf challenges on the front-nine and back-nine holes. This provides golfers of all levels a unique and enjoyable playing experience. The Pines is home to a variety of desert wildlife including a nesting hawk in a tree off the back of the 18th green. Unfortunately, the pace of play that I experienced during my last 2 rounds was extremely slow. In fact, recently, the group behind my foursome drove into us twice; even though there were 3 foursomes clearly ahead of our group. This was brought to the ranger's attention after the first occurrence; not sure that anything was done about this breach of golf ethics. Our round took 5 hours 10 minutes.

Great test of golf
This course has some of the best looking golf holes you will ever see....Have played here at least six times...Never get tired of it!

Love the layout
One of our favorite courses. However, today it was so slow, that it was frustrating! The course needs a Marshall to find out who is backing everyone up, and deal with it. We should not have to wait 10 - 15 minutes at every single hole! On the par 3's, there was a group on the green, one waiting on the tee box, and 2 foursomes waiting on the cart path. Not acceptable. Or, perhaps they are just booking tee time too close together. Either way, it reflects badly on the course in general.
