Omni Tucson National Golf Resort & Spa 4.5 5 53 53
I played this course 35 years ago when it was THE top rated course in Tucson. In my opinion it still is. I was a summer visitor to Tucson this year. I went college and lived in Tucson for 16 years in the 1970s & 80s. Back then if you could get on the course yolu were lucky. When you did it was THE best in Tucson. You always wanted to come back. I have not played the course in 35 years. Tucson National has added a new 18 holes since. Both courses are supurb. I played the course whenever I could while in Tucson. The Catalina course has change three holes on the front nine but in my opinion the changes make the course better. 35 years ago, #15 was the only 600+ yard par 5 on the PGA tour. We played it three times this summer. Technology does make it a little easier but it is still a monster. A birdie there is definately a skin in our game. #18 is still the signature hole of the course. It is just one super hole. It takes four good shots to make par. The slightest miss will not cut it. A miss results in bogie or worse. The summer rates for Tucson National are unbelievable. 25 years ago we paid $40 to play. I paid $20 to $30 dollars a round to play National this summer. What a treat. October 6, 2012
Traditional park like setting. The Catalina course at Omni Tucson National provides a wonderful challenge as you play the tree lined fairways. This course has tremendous history and the staff keeps it in great condition. The greens were soft and a little fast...the speed of the greens changed a bit during the round as they dried out in the afternoon. For the most part, the fairways were in good condition with only a few dry areas. All of the staff, from greeters, to Pro Shop and Starter were all friendly and very helpful. After dropping off my bag and going to park, they brought my cart out to me in the parking lot - have not received that level of service in a long while. The course has cold water on just about every other hole so we had plenty of opportunity to keep hydrated. Over-all a very good experience. October 6, 2012
There were openings in a Charity Outing that did not fill up so we booked 2 tee times. Best course I've played in Tucson area this spring. Fairways and rough green edge to edge, traps raked with real sand, greens had no brown or bare spots or infusions of foreign grass. All of our putts rolled true no bounces, bumps etc. Plus course has some spectacular vies of Catalinas and even downtown Tucson. A challenge. We played Whites. If I played again I'd play the White/Red combo. It was a scramble with a shotgun start so pace was probably slower than a normal round. If I see $$$$ like this for Omni I'll book in a heartbeat. Best course in Tucson This course is excellently maintained and the pace of play was exactly 4hrs. Very good practice facilities and over all operation. March 29, 2013
Fun Round The value was great. Paid $53 on GolfNow. Played relatively quick for a threesome - 3 1/2 hours. The course was in good shape. The rough off the fairway is pretty burnt out, but the greens rolled nicely. The Sonoran Course isn't too difficult as long as you keep it in play. There's a nice mixture of some challenging holes and somewhere you will have birdie opportunities. It was a very enjoyable round of golf. March 27, 2013
Scenic course in good condition Did not particularly enjoy this course...could be that it did not suit our style of play, could be the level of difficulty or it could be the players behind us who kept hitting into us (almost striking one of our group), even though we were keeping up with the group ahead of us and could not play any faster! The course was in good condition although not as good as Ventana Canyon which we played earlier in the week. Greens were consistent. Starter was very friendly and helpful. March 24, 2013
NICE TRADITIONAL LAYOUT Long par fives and medium to long par threes combine for a 6600 yd par 73 from the whites.Fairway bunkers and well protected greens make for a challenging time on certain holes.Water also comes into play and makes for difficult tee shots on three holes.Green were small buy very receptive to approach shots of all lengths.Overall a very enjoyable round and would play again. March 21, 2013
Challenging, well maintained, but a little pricey This is the second time I have played this course and both times it ate me up...but for different reasons. Last year, I just wasn't striking the ball well. This year, it was bunkers and putting. Lots and lots of bunkers, in addition to the usual challenges of a desert-style course. It was clearly the best maintained of the 5 courses I've played so far this year. Even the sand in the bunkers was appropriately soft and the bunkers were raked. It's just a tough course---landing space is at a minimum, although the fairways aren't really all that narrow. The greens were tough and hard to read. Nothing unfair here---just a good challenge. I'd definitely return, although I need to snap up the better listings on GolfNow. They go fast!! February 24, 2013
Gotta love this course We had a great time, the course was in pristine shape and ultimately it was a memorable round, especially the 15 foot flag stick on the steep up hill par 4. Also, watching Mark M. be stoked for the entire round because he was finally playing here after growing up in Tucson and wanting to his whole life was priceless. February 22, 2013
Not worth the High Green Fee's They are fine and challenging courses, but for the money, there are several others in the area, that are equal or better, for less money! Great Driving, Putting and Chipping Range's, and a "nice" courses, but vertainly not worth the $$$$. February 18, 2013
This course is challenging, well bunkered, smooth greens, and hilly. Bring your "A" game from either the Combo or back tees. Every tee shot is going to be a challenge to stay out of the fairway bunkers. Greens are well bunkered, fast and quite contoured which equals potential three putt situations. Probably the most scenic course in the Tucson area. February 15, 2013
Be prepared for small greens Regular price for a round of golf here is absurd for the quality of the course. This is not Dove Mountain. February 15, 2013
Fair, Challenging, Consistent Unlike many challenging courses (i.e Dove Mountain), Tucson National is very up-front about its challenges. Also, unlike many resort courses, this course is set up to challenge you off the tee just as much as around the greens. Well-placed bunkers are a huge part of that; so are several water hazards. Still, there are birdie holes out there, especially on the back nine. Course is in great shape, and greens are consistent. A must-play course if you're in Tucson for a while. February 15, 2013
Fantastic course, great service staff, reasonably priced I have golfed in several states as well as a couple courses in the Carribean and a couple in Mexico and of all of them, I feel that this is by far the best course that I have played. February 12, 2013
great traditional layout. Played it from the tips, sets up well from there. Probably the best course I,ve played in the Tucson area. February 10, 2013
Great course in great condition The track, while challenging wasn't the target golf that is sometimes the feature of desert golf. It was in immaculate shape and the rough wasn't punishing at all. The fairways were wide enough to allow the slightly off-line shot to find green grass, but not so wide that you didn't have to think about the shot. Also, the course yardage book was of immense help in allowing correct shot placement and club selection. Definitely going back again. February 10, 2013
Old school Tucson golf, but still the design holds up well This is a very traditional layout without a bunch of frills in the design. The greens are in good condition this winter. The 9th and 18th holes are still very tough tests of golf. With a good Golfnow rate, it's clearly worth the money. February 2, 2013
Nice layout and in great condition relative to most of the courses we've playing Tucson area this year. I always enjoy playing the Tucson National courses. The atmosphere at the resort is great and the course is kept in very nice condition. This time, the maintenance workers were a plague as it seemed they were on every tee box we used, but I suppose that had something to do with the frost delay. February 1, 2013
A great traditional course Great staff of professionals. No issues with golfnow. Course was in great shape. January 31, 2013
good course--glad we played We were on the cart paths--lots of rain overnight. The practice facility is excellent and the course in good condition. January 29, 2013
Typical resort course, great shape. The course was closed for most of the day, the day we played, due to heavy rains. We asked if we could reschedule and was told no, We even offered to pay up front and come back another day, no go. They told us we could go hit some balls and tee off when we were ready. There was no marshall, starter, it was a free for all at the first tee. It was cart path only which made for a very slow round. Needless to say we were dissapointed that the staff could not be a bit more accommodating considering the weather, conditions, pace of play. Rain checks don't apply here, luckly is does not rain a whole lot in AZ!!! January 28, 2013
nice change from typical desert course. a classic A classic course in great shape. Evokes days of old when celebs and pros played in the old Tucson Open. Great ambiance. Tee selections for all levels of play. January 17, 2013
Great variety of shot selection Tees, fairways, greens and traps in great shape. We played from the white tees and fully enjoyed the round. The ponds are well placed thus making you consider your method of playing the hole. Elevated well trapped greens made approaches interesting and fun. Will play the course again... January 17, 2013
This course was great From the time you arrive, to the time you leave, you are treated like a special guest. I was not staying at the resort, but treated as though I were. From the gentleman who greets you on arrival, to the pro shop, to the grill/bar, to the starter, everyone I came in contact with was friendly and helpful. The course was pristine, and was maintained as though there were a PGA tournament taking place. I look forward to playing this course again, and will highly recommend it to my friends. January 5, 2013
The course was definitely a 5-star resort course, very playable I felt this course was challenging but fair. The differences in tees is quite severe. I played the "Whites" which was 6600 yards (Blues at most courses), which for my handicap index of a course 10 was about right. The guys I played with used a non-advertised "Red/White" tee mix (on a special scorecard), which was about 6000 yards and they did have a distinct advantage. If your handicap is >12 I would say ask for the Red/White scorecard and you will enjoy the course a lot more. December 30, 2012
this course has well protected greens. Accuracy is most important for a good score. Course plays well, although accuracy is required, especially around greens which are well protected by lots of bunkers in front and back. December 25, 2012
Good "old style" course Played as a single and the course was not too busy, so I got around fast. The course itself was in good shape and the holes were pretty straight-forward. All in all, an enjoyable experience. Just wish I'd played better. I'd go back again when I'm in the area. December 7, 2012
Course layout extremely appealing First class in all aspects. Interaction with the staff was genuine and friendly. December 3, 2012
One of the best golf resorts in Tucson! For many years I have been playing at Tucson National and it is only getting better. The two course option gives you all the play one could want, if it be a local or guest! Golf now always seems to get you a great rate. The food and beverage is great and the staff both golf and wait are spot on. I wish the Tucson Open would return to Tucson National what a great venue! November 29, 2012
Well maintained challenging course Easy to bogie hard to par, a challenging course. It's easy to see why the Tucson Open was played here for many years. Great closing hole. November 27, 2012
