McCormick Ranch Golf Club 3.1 5 90 90
Fair in the Fairway Palm is a nice course, worth playing at the right rate. But unlike most other AZ courses there is no first cut and rough. If you are off the normal to narrow fairways there is little grass; sometimes crabgrass, sometimes bare ground (as noted by others). Comprable to the good Golf Now $50-$60 courses, but over priced at $70-$90 (and don't even think about paying the $125 rack rate). It was the fastest round of the week at 3:45. April 7, 2013
Harder than it looks. Conditions great. Played Easter Sunday in 2 hrs 15 min. Course was in great shape. Greens ran true - I one-putted half the holes. April 3, 2013
interesting layout with plenty of water and sand More of a nice municipal type course than a fancy resort course. Old style GPS showing only distances. Fairways and greens well maintained but not so much for the roughs which had far too much bare ground. I expected a bit more for over $100 through GolfNow but it was an enjoyable round. March 30, 2013
Disappointing. Looking for a late afternoon round. Pro staff was okay, bag staff was dismissive, service staff - were too busy texting to really care about the customers. Is this the way to run a resort. Range was okay and the course was okay as long as you were in the fairway. Rough was difficult to even find grass in the hardpan. While it was moderately cheap, I could have done better at the executive 9 hole course not too far away. March 29, 2013
Enjoyable layout, extensive facilities First time visit to McCormick Ranch. Played the Palm Course. A large busy facility on our afternoon visit. Extensive practice areas which we took advantage of and were included in the green fee. We found the opening holes of the Palm unspectacular but the course becomes interesting from the 8th hole on. Number 9 is a great par 4 with an island fairway. The back 9 provides some interesting holes with some tighter par fours and two tempting par fives. Fairways and greens are well maintained but the dormant rough areas take away somewhat from the esthetics. There's a lot to like about McCormick Ranch especially if you are looking for something other than desert golf. This is a classic parkland layout that provided for an enjoyable afternoon. Overall, a very enjoyable golf experience. Fair and fun course to play. Staff was incredible friendly and accomodating. They gave my son the junior rate without even asking for it. They were very helpful and informative. Pace of play was great. Overall, a very enjoyable golf experience. March 29, 2013
Nice course with tricky greens The course was well maintained and the staff friendly. Overall, I would go back but this course is artificially hard. By this I mean the course itself is not very challenging, but if you are only an average chipper and putter (or worse) then the difficulty rating gets a bit too high for casual rounds. See below. The greens on the Palm course were fast and had extreme amounts of break - one putts were few and far between. Lots of water and some good challenging risk-reward holes. A few fairways penalized a very good drive due to cross slopes that ended with a drowned ball. Any green with water adjacent to it had the fringe shaved down so that there was no way a ball would stay dry. Most pin placements were on the steepest part of the green leaving lots of fast downhill putts. Given the steep slopes and lack of forgiveness made it excessively punitive for a casual round. The driving range was too small for the size of course. They also had the hitting stations set up on grass seed (no grass, hitting off the seed mix) - I wonder if the maintenance staff realize that grass grows better when its not been trampled on. A great golf experience! We found the course to be beautiful and challenging. Great staff too! March 28, 2013
Great course for recreational golfer I've played the Palm at McCormick ranch many times. It is always beautifully maintained with the greens are kept at a speed an amateur can handle. The fairways are narrow requiring an accurate drive but the rough is not difficult so the pace of play is not affected. This is the perfect resort course. March 27, 2013
fun to play I thought the course was fun to play and it was well maintained. March 26, 2013
Palms Course is Top Quality, Fun w/ Awesome Greens Great Palms Course. Difficulty comes due to large breaks in putts, which were in awesome condition. Great course. March 25, 2013
A value! And perfectly maintained We actually played two rounds. First on the pine course was a 3 1/2 hour round and the afternoon round on the palm was a 4 1/2 hour round. Both courses were challenging but fun. We had the oppurtunity to use every club and every shot in our bags! I experienced great satisfaction on the greens if I came away with a two putt! I would definitely return. March 25, 2013
I thought the course was in fair condition. Will not play again. I thought the course was in fair condition. I thought the course was over priced. I will not paly the course again. March 24, 2013
Nice Layout But Still Not What it Can Be We enjoyed the course. We played the Palms. The staff were great and thought the value for a Springtime rate in AZ was good. The course has been going through some upgrades and is headed in the right direction. We'd play there again. March 24, 2013
On a sat during spring break 3.5 hr round Even on a Saturday during spring break we played in under 4 hours with no waits. The ranger was great, greens were in great shape. And a warm up instructor Michelle was awesome!! March 24, 2013
Nice Nice fun green water sweet exciting gorgeous amazing March 20, 2013
Overpriced, over hyped I played 3 courses while in the Area, and this one was in the worst condition with the highest price, nothing special about this course, slight step above a muny course. I was disappointed. For the money it should have been in much better shape, grass clippings dumped to the side, dead saud lining the lakes, a lot of dead grass off the fairway, fairways had multiple spots with ground under repair due to lack of grass there. Price should be closer to $50 or $60. March 18, 2013
Need a starter! Calling groups over speaker and then 7min between is not enough time between foursomes. Only saw one marshall driving around course with no purpose, which made things very slow and waited on almost every hole. March 17, 2013
This is an open course The course was open but trouble (water) that was not always visible when hitting until it was to late. Beware of the yardages especially on hole #9 Palm course as it is closer than stated. March 11, 2013
Fairways and greens were in great condition. Pace of play was great and course wasn't too difficult. Fairways and greens were in great condition. Pace of play was great and course wasn't too difficult. March 6, 2013
Fairways and greens are in great shape I enjoyed playing this course with its target greens and the fairways were perfect. Nice course to play on but it is pricey. March 1, 2013
The Palm was a very nice course for the money. The staff was all very friendly and accomodating. The fairways, greens and bunkers were in excellent condition. I played in late February and the rough was none existent - balls rolled through the rough into hazards, or when hitting out of the rough it was hitting off compacted dirt. Since I am not from the area, I don't know if that is normal for this time of year or an issue with their course. February 25, 2013
Poorly maintained! The greens were extremely pock marked and there was no pride anywhere to be seen. The marshalls just rode around and never said a thing to anyone. The rough had no grass at all in much of the areas. Very disappointing. I played here years ago many times and was dismayed. February 23, 2013
Way too slow and packed Ok course, nothing special. They packed WAY too many golfers on the course, I teed off on #5, 90 minutes after #1! After 4 hours and 20 minutes, I quit after 12 holes. Long waits between shots, not my idea of a good time. February 20, 2013
Not worth the price. We played Pine. Course condition, relative to other options in the valley, does not warrant the fee charged. February 20, 2013
Not really a desert course This course was like any other course you usually get around a house estate. Good condition but you got o Phoenix to play desert golf February 20, 2013
Challenging course. Good pace of play This is a very nice golf club. We played the Pine course and it was in good shape, nice fairways and challenging greens. We were playing early and just flew through the course in under 4 hrs. The only issue we had were the ladies rental clubs we needed were in very poor condition and we addressed this with the staff and Mgt but were told basically that's it and for $45.00 Rental fee. They admitted they were old but didn't do anything about it! Overall though, this is a course worth the money and worth playing again. February 18, 2013
This place is fabulous !!! Hi, From the moment I arrived till I left I was impressed by the staff's friendliness. I got there early (10:45) for a noon tee time and took advantage of the driving range, chipping area and practice putting green. The putting green speed was indicative of the course greens. Quick, but not superfast and rolling true. We were only two in our group due to a late cancellation, this made for waiting time on the tee boxes. Fairways were good but there was a lot of dry spots in the intermediate rough. All in all it was a great day of February golf. (my home course in NB,Canada is under 3 ft. of snow) Also got a great last minute deal from GolfNow. I would like to play this course again under ideal conditions because I found it to be a shot makers course. Regards, Lou February 17, 2013
Fun layout on Palm front nine. Lots of water but only a problem if you really slice or really hook. Great staff. Easy on and off the course because the staff really knows how to treat us duffers. February 14, 2013
This course has lots of wildlife to see and is very quiet. Things I suggest improving on are: better beer for sale on the cart; a drop zone sign across the water; cleaning the water hole, especially the last one with the island because there were dead fish floating on the water and it didn't smell very good.
