Raven Golf Club - Phoenix
Raven Golf Club
The course was in good condition but I my biggest complaint was pace of play. This course packs in tee times on top of one another which forces you to wait on every hole. Also, the course is not in the best area and feels like it is boxed in between residential neighborhoods. All of the holes are incredibally close to one another and it is common to see people playing their shots from other fairways. I myself prefer more of a desert golf feel, definately not going to find that here. The sand traps are incredibally large and can make for a tricky round. The range and practice facility are nice, but range balls should be included with greens fees which is common with other clubs in the Phoenix area.

Don't stop for a hotdog on the turn.
The course is challenging, especially the front nine.
The fairways and greens are lush compared to other courses we've played in the area.
The pace of play moves right along, if you get in trouble, the group behind you will be on your heels.
We stopped at the turn for a "quick" hotdog. Well we waited 20-25 minutes for our hotdogs, "unacceptable"!! Get the readymade sandwiches if you're hungry. Three groups passed us as we waited for the dogs. We managed to get 18 in, because the back nine plays faster. All in all it was a fun day, I'd definitely play this course again and get a readymade sandwich at the turn.

Great course - somewhat neglected
I first played the Raven in 2006 when I found it to be an excellent challenge and well maintained.
However, on returning in Dec 2014, I was disappointed to find the fairways looking patchy and in need of water, the bunkers needing sand in some cases and the tee areas poorly maintained.
The course itself is excellent - a great challenge, tight drives on occasion, and with good views of the South mountains.
I still enjoyed my round, largely due to the excellent, entertaining company of my playing partners who are members of the Raven - it is the first time I have seen someone destroy a playing partner's trolley with their buggie! The inside view from these members is that the course has recently undergone a change of ownership and they are still unclear of the future of the club - with concerns being raised regarding apparent plans to reduce the interval between tee times from 9 to 7 minutes, and a fear that the course is merely seen as a cash cow.
At $99 plus tax this was not a cheap round - and, at that rate, with the current course conditions, I will not be rushing to return to the Raven until things improve. There are plenty of better, less costly, alternatives in the area - not least the Legacy across the road.
One other note - whilst the bag men and starter were friendly and informative, the welcome in the pro shop was less so - a smile and a friendly welcome go a long way to giving a good impression - however, both were sadly absent.
All in all - I had an enjoyable day but left feeling frustrated at how a great course is being somewhat neglected.

So nice to see so much green in the desert! Fairways were lush and rolling, greens perfect. Pine trees make you feel like you are in the north woods. I'll be back!

now this is a golf course
This is not what i expected being in arizona.
When i drove in to the parking lot and seen all the ponderosa pine, it was like being back home golfing in southern british columbia.
The lay out was great, holes were defined very well with the trees and mounding. course is challenging from the tips ( need to hit a long ball) Greens were very good speed and not overly undulated.
Staff very friendly, course conditions excellent, design excellent,
Only wish i had played better. would i recommend, absolutely!! You could easily hold an event there and not come away dissapointed.

It was worth the twilight fee.
I wouldn't want to pay the full price for this course.
