Great course with excellent variety of holes
This is one of my favorite courses in Arizona. A great variety of holes with a park-like front 9 and a desert back 9. Nice mix of holes. Just challenging enough to make it interesting and not too frustrating. Excellent condition and super friendly staff.

Great desert course
Beautiful layout with a variety of shots required to smallish greens. Great vistas, particularly on back nine. Course played efficiently, finishing round in 3:30 when starting at 2:50.
Overall, an outstanding value.

Two courses in one
We played this course twice during our stay and it was in pretty good shape. The front line is green grass, water, sand traps... your typical golf course. There's some interesting holes and fun shots.
The back nine is completely different. It's a desert course which requires you to be precise in your club choice and accurate. If you were lulled to sleep on the front, you better wake up on the back or suffer the consequences. Overall, a fun course to play while your wife and kids are enjoying the resort's other amenities.

Slow playing course
Booked an early morning tee time - only 2 groups ahead of us and it still slowed us down. This is a slow playing course mainly due to the lack of visibility (many blind shots), cant see where your ball went and the 95% of the course is roped off so you can not drive your cart on the fairway to find it. Where you have to park the cart is so far from where the ball is being played it slows everybody down. Beautiful scenery otherwise, just too bad they have roped off so many parts of the course. It is a difficult course as there are many blind shots - lots of lay up and iron play, not the greatest or most fun way of playing. To each their own. Clubhouse in a poor location, difficult to find, nowhere to park nearby or bag drop. Would not play here again . Full price green fee is not worth it compared to the caliber of other golf courses in the area for the price.

Better than the reviews.
Well worth the discounted fee on Golfnow. Paired up with locals that new the course. The pace of play was perfect, only got held up on one back 9 hole. Very good experience overall.
April 3, 2013
The front nine is fairly bland. Requires blind shots on the first 2 holes.
Not a bad course but nothing special, especially in a city that has many golf courses. The value was good and there are some challenging holes on the back nine.

Got to try out this golf course as it will make for a great day.
Rally enjoyed the contrasting resort style front 9 vs desert style back 9. Course conditions were very good. Had a great time there!

Very challenging course.
Greens in excellent condition. #1 hancicap hole is extremely challenging. First shot has to be good or just pick up and move on. Spectacular views.

Two courses in one track and great views
The front nine has a links look and water often in play while the back nine is cut right into the mountains and has very dramatic views. I was impressed. The one downside was the staff let a family of two threesomes with kids play together which slowed us down for 4/5 holes until they were instructed to let us (and others) play through.

not for locals
This is definitely a resort first. Kids and families all over tbe course, not playing golf just adjacent or walking. Then you play next to hikers, joggers, bikers. Will challenge your concentration or get you a lawsuit. While well maintained and interesting to play both traditional and desert style overall the course felt tricked up. Greens were flush with poa.

Nice city course
AZ grand was a neat course with good views and interesting elevation changes. However, it seemed like every hole was basically the same - set-up shot then wedge approach shot. If you are a relatively long hitter (>250), all you need is a 5 iron and a couple wedges to make it around the course. At $65 on golfnow, it was good value for the money.

Challenging course
We had played it some years before, enjoyed it but found that it has more than the two holes mentioned by the starter that have no cart access. Otherwise it is very well kept and the greens were good. It can be fun to play but the marshall needs to be around to keep up the pace of play.

Course has great features, rolling hills, water holes and narrow entry's into dessert fairways.
I liked the whole layout of this course, my preference was the back nine, in saying that, the front nine lead up to the appreciation of back nine.

Dont use your driver.
Course was in great shape and fun to play. Greens have some undulations but nothing severe and not hard to read. Had to really think my way around the course. Seldom need to use your driver. I hit a 4 hybrid on the first two holes and made pars. Came to the third hole, a par five, and pulled out my driver. Big mistake. Drove it through the fairway into a fairway trap and made a triple. Didn't hit driver again until the 10th and made another triple. Driver on the 13th and it paid off with an eagle. Nevertheless, had I left driver in the bag, I would have broken 80.
March 17, 2013
greens not in good shape
greens were rough and did not roll well for the ball
March 16, 2013
Tough back nine but fun & fair
Back nine has alot of surprises if you are not familiar with the course.
March 15, 2013
I golfed 12 other courses in the Phoenix area and this course had the worst greens of all.
Course Greens & Tee Boxes need work, poor condition.

Wish we'd found it sooner!
In the 15+ years, we've been coming to the desert, we're unsure as to how we missed this course! Totally different front nine vs. back nine. Back nine is more target golf, plays a little slower, but the vistas through South Mountain are beautiful. 18th hole tee box you can see for miles on a clear day.
We'll be back to play this one again!
March 14, 2013
This course is a very nice course and in very good condition. The back nine is more of a target golf course and pretty challenging.
Great golfing experience! For the price that we paid, it was worth the money to golf. We would make another trip back to golf this course again.

Bad experience
We were to tee off at 1:30 and they were running 45 minutes late. They ran out of golf carts and when we were teeing off they said the cart was coming off 17. We teed off and then they drove the carts out to us. The range has wiffle balls, not real golf balls. The pace was painfully slow. The course is narrow and meanders through timeshares or apartments. The fairways and greens were well kept, but not marked well and after a good shot you would find yourself in hidden water. We did not see a cart person the entire round and the one time we saw the ranger it was for him to inform us to have the carts back by 6:30. Our group (12) would never play this again. Too many good courses to consider this location again.

Fun, Scenic, sometimes narrow off the tee
Not too long, a challenge and still fun...overall a good experience

A Great Opportunity To Play On Two Different Course Layouts
The front nine are a traditional parkland layout. This still offered many challenges with a lot of water, numerous well positioned deep sand traps as well as several elavated tee boxes and/or greens. The beauty of this course is that the back nine is a desert course layout and this was great as it required target golf accuracy. What a pleasure to combine both styles in the same round.

Great layout for a resort course.
Staff was freindly, course was in pretty good condition with the exception of a few bare spots here and there but pretty minor. Greens speeds were okay, not really fast but they rolled true for the most part.
February 28, 2013
Beautiful track
Nice course. Would play this course again. Staff was very nice and hospitable.

Love this course
One of my favouriites in Phoenix. Challenging course in a lovely setting. Very well maintained.
February 26, 2013
condition
The course was in great shape even in the winter months. Definitely give this one a try if you're tired of playing out off dormant rough.
February 26, 2013
Nice course but plays too slow
We were a twosome. Teed of at 1:50pm. Never saw a course attendant. At 6:00pm we were just starting hole 14. We quit after hole 15 due to darkness which was around 6:30pm.
February 24, 2013
VERY NICE DESERT COURSE
THE LAST NINE HOLE ARE VERY BEAUTIFUL
GREEN AND FAIRWAYS PERFECT
BEAUTIFUL VIEW ON THE LAST NINE HOLES
February 23, 2013
Has two Holes that are challenging #1 and #13.
The bag drop has alot to be desired. Could'nt find it and was inconvenient to retrieve clubs after round. The course was in good shape except some greens were dry and needed attention. It is a typical Resort course and we thought over-priced. $9.00 for a Bloody Mary on the course??? Not a hard course even for the gals. Won't play again at the asking price but maybe later at the lower prices in off season. The ranger was outstanding. No coolers on the carts with ice.
February 23, 2013
Worth while playing once.
The driving range is weak. Rubber, limited flight balls hit off mats. Practise greens are good. Kind of a goofy layout with several blind tee shots. The 9th and 18th are no where near the clubhouse so pack a lunch cause you're not going to grab something at the turn. Several generous fairways that are next to impossible to miss with high banks on each side. A couple of fun par 3's with big elevation changes. Greens were recovering nicely from aeration. As for value...I paid a twilight rate ($50.00) which is the most I would pay for this track.
