Greens were very slow compared to other courses in the area and parts of the course looked were a bit overused or underrepaired.
Nice layout just not up to the same lefvel as other area courses. Greens very slow, fairways and tee boxes a little rough. dogs on course!

Ehh
For $85.00 I've played way better courses, and oh by the way it is in Maricopa which is BFE in the Phoenix area, took almost an hour to get there from Goodyear?

High and Low Handicap appeal
Quiet setting with smooth greens. Enjoyed by low handicapper due to bunker and visual layout while still fun for high handicapper due to forgiving landing areas and playable rough / waste settings. A solid value if you are in the area.

Nice Course - Friendly Staff
This course is well-maintained and worth the money. The fairways are relatively open, but there are lots of hills and bunkers to challenge players (and the bunkers here are no joke). No GPS or tip sheets make it even tougher on first timers. All in all a good place for a round.

Course is very golfer friendly with challenging holes through out.
Course surface was extremely hard. Course of play was slow, taking 5 hours and 10 minutes to complete. The worst part-there was no marshaller in site the entire round. Drink cart attendant was only available twice. Another downside was the club house was closed when we finished our round at 7 pm. Out of town guests were disappointed they were not able to visit make a purchase. Another down side was the lack of parking space available due for number of golfers, restaurant guest or craft show vendors or combo of all 3.

Not bad but not great either
Fair to average layout and not great conditions. Not exactly a poor course but there are much better options for the same costs throughout the Phoenix area. These guys need to up their game to stay competitive in this market.

poor condition
Course has had way to much play and little maintenance. Desert areas are over run with weeds and ditches are washed out. rough is worn down to the clay with traffic, and greens are inconsistant at best. This course was a solid track two years ago but is getting over run with little care. Management looks to be concerned with collecting fees from members in Ahwatukee with little regards to conditions. Stay away, there are substantially better courses to play for the money.

Great course for the money.
I visited AZ for the first time and was looking to play a few rounds while there. After reading reviews of courses and comparing that to the price ofd the greens fees..."The Duke" was one of my choices. I arrived for my early tee time and was greeted by a nice/professional staff . The clubhouse area was nice. The course was challenging but fair. The greens rolled true and were pretty fast. The course winds thru a development so its not a "desert course." It is though a course that gives you alot of bang for your buck. I was staying in Tempe so the drive to the Duke was apx. 30 mins. Pretty drive though so it was worth it. I definitely would recommend this course to players of all levels.

Nothing about this course that stands out or would have been rated so hiighly in Golf Digest that we could see..
Upon arrival prior to tee time by some 15 minutes we were rushed to the first tee where we waited for 18 minutes before we could tee off. Also, we had to carry two sets of our clubs to our carts. There were no on course "Player Assistants/Marshalls" to montor playing time. We waited for every shot!
The course overall for the price demanded falls well short of other courses in this area at much lesser prices and afre in far better condition. Our experience at the Duke was to say the least was a total disappointment.

This course's defense are the many bunkers and undulating greens are a challenge
Thanks to Golf Now we paid an affordable and appropriate rate for this course. Pros - friendly accomodating staff, good practice facility, nice clubhouse, and the greens were in good shape. Cons - no announcements for tee times at practice areas, thin grass on the fairways, and many traps with hardly any sand in them. This course is located in a subdivision and the fairways are lined by homes, so if you are looking for a truly desert view experience, this is not the course for you.

Poor value
Overpriced for condition. Sparse yardage markers and no GPS.

Nice layout
I have played the course when it has been in better shape. It is not bad though considering the weather we have had.

This course plays well if you stay on the green stuff.
There was some flooding in areas that have been playable in the past. Most of the fairways and greens are sparsely seeded. I like the golf ball to sit up on the grass. When you take a divot the ground is clay based and very hard. The sands traps could use some more sand as they are a bit hard. Overall a nice track that I found quite challenging. Maurice Parobec

The Duke is a great course
Slow play but did play late in the afternoon but did get a great low price and a sleeve of golf balls
January 20, 2013
Very playable for all levels.
Have golfed here many times in the past 3 years and the Duke is always in good shape. With many frost delays and cancellations lately they did a good job of getting everyone out.

good course for the family.
its a good community course with challenging greens. the staff are great and facilities are good.
January 18, 2013
Slow play, no effort to improve pace of play.
Could be better maintained, bit overpriced for this area. Friendly staff.

worth the drive
Greens ran true on every hole.. nice layout.. Bermuda was dorment..may have to come out in the summer time to appreciate it.. Only draw back is gas powered carts (loud especially during back swing,,).. Pls. invest in CLUB CAR even the old ones have a better ride than a new EZGO..

Wonderful time on the course
We enjoyed everything about the course and the people that work there.
December 27, 2012
Great layout with unique features every hole.
Too bad there was NOT a course marshall as the pace of play was brutal! The lack of etiquette or knowledge of "ready golf" was evident everywhere. I would love to play the course again and be able to finish the round. Everyone should be made aware that a round can be played in 4hrs 20 minutes....
December 24, 2012
the greens were great!
the duke is an enjoyable course. very great shape. i would say one of the best kept fairways in the area.
December 3, 2012
Great opening and finishing holes; greens can be tricky pending pin placement!
Course is in good shape and forgiving for the average player. Greens can be tricky as many are large & guarded by bunkers. Finishing hole is long and scenic, but 3 good shots to the green will find you putting for birdie to end your round!
November 21, 2012
I'd play it every day but the reality is I wait for special pricing.
I always play this course because it has faster greens and different looks and shoots to the greens.
November 15, 2012
I found it to be a fun course for the average golfer.
Have played there twice and had a enjoyable day both times. I live 60 miles away but would make the drive to play there any time my buddies want to go. Staff is very friendly and the food after our round was great. If you get the chance to play here do not pass it up.

An enjoyable round in the desert!
The course was in typical shape for post-overseeding. The fairways had not fully grown in and the greens were a bit shaggy. Those are conditions to expect in Arizona in this shoulder season. Carts were restricted to cartpaths, simply, a little more walking was in order. The restaurant was excellent . Overall, an enjoyable round of golf.

Forgot the Overseeding/winter grass?
Most of the greens are missing grass. Like they completely forgot to overseed for the winter and yet they claimed they overseeded a week ago. Areas close the green is missing grass too.. Had to take 2 putts on the green and move on to the next hole.
NOT worth $45 for this course...

Great course, very friendly staff
My partner and I played on Saturday October 13, 2012.
The course had been open only a few days since it had completed its' fall over seeding.
The fairways and tees were fantastic. The greens were in horrible condition, very shaggy, looked like they had recently been verticut. The were very bumpy and pretty much un- puttable
As good as the fairways were, the greens were completely the opposite.
That part was very disappointing.
When you are playing well, hitting the ball well, then have to putt on the lousy greens, it was almost unfair and could ruin a good round and good time.

Wide Open
I have played this course tons of times and like it very much. I just happen to play two days before they were going to over seed and the course was already scalped. I should have called ahead. My fault. I would always recommend this course highly under normal circumstances.
October 5, 2012
Nice, but in process of overseeding
The course seems like it is a little above average for condition. It was hard to tell, though, because they were scalping the fairways, and had just scalped the greens in preparation for overseeding.
October 4, 2012
course was skalped for winter grass
Duke is usually in excellent shape. Unfortuneately it was scalped on greens and fairways. Course was in very poor shape to play.
