Wigwam Golf & Country Club - Red Course

Book online and get discount tee times at Wigwam Golf & Country Club - Red Course

The Red Course was created by Robert "Red" Lawrence, the famed golf course architect responsible for Arizona's first desert golf course. Red is also credited with being involved with the designs of the Merion, Homestead, Westchester, and Desert Forest Golf Clubs. To this day, his work at The Wigwam perfectly complements Jones' Gold and Blue courses. With a length between its two siblings and par 72, The Red plays alongside streams and ponds set among a forest of pines, cypress and eucalyptus trees. From the back tees, the final 3 holes will make you feel like a hero or make you call your pro for a lesson the next day!

Wigwam Golf & Country Club 3.8 5 102 102
The Red Course has always been one of my favorites. I have played golf out at the Wigwam Resort over many years, mostly through company tournaments, and whenever I got the opportunity. The course and staff have always made it a great experience. The facility has always been a West Valley treasure. Booking Wigwam tee times with Golfnow was also easy and a good experience, using it for the ver first time. I highly recommend both. Ed November 20, 2012
Nice traditional course I played the Red course while the other two (both Robert Trent Jones Sr. designs) were in overseed. The fairways and greens were in good condition for this time of year, while the rough was definitely penal with its thick burmuda. The difference between Wigwam and the newer courses in Arizona is the wall to wall grass and adjacent fairways. For those of us who sometimes hit it wide, these are forgiving features that offer a chance for recovery if you can get over or through the many mature trees that line the fairways. Wigwam Red is a relatively flat course but water comes into play on several holes. The staff, practice areas and amenities are definitely a step up from the standard municipal course. They also offer yardage guides for just $3. These help better golfers navigate the doglegs, fairway bunkers and other hazards that may be hidden from view. Overall, an enjoyable traditional golf outing that is more affordable than many of the other golf options in the Phoenix area. October 16, 2012
Course was in good shape, Tee Boxes and green were a little beat. Still a very nice golf course. Great Golf Course, played well and was very busy. i did seem that the greens we very beat up (no diviot repairs) the tee boxes did not look like they were water very often and were hard. over all I would give it a better than average rating with a little improvement it could be much better. April 8, 2013
really liked the course good old style course with lots of trouble if you are not careful. the sand traps need some more sand in them. some of the tee boxes are so small that they get beat up pretty bad. as much as i liked the course, my girl friend found the course to be too long for her . the course needs at least one more forward tee for the shorter hitters. if i come to play from canada i enjoy playing with my girl friend who is a good golfer but a shorter hitter. outside of that we really enjoyed the course April 5, 2013
Great track for the money! Well maintained traditional course that plays long from any of the tees. April 3, 2013
Nice Course Nice facitily, very busy. Wide open, no a lot of trouble, sand traps are strategically placed. April 3, 2013
Great Course! Got out at 8:30 on a Monday morning. Nobody in front, or behind us. Great course! Plush fairways. Greens were a little hard, but not bad at all. Would definitely recommend this course. Especially for $65 a round. March 31, 2013
Very good Wigwam!!! Have played this course many times over the years. This is the best I have ever seen these greens and tee boxes and for that matter the entire course. Fun course and good layout. Keep up the forward progress on conditions Wigwam! Very nice! March 30, 2013
Long but beautiful course Lush green fairways lined with pine, lots of water for an AZ course, but overall, one you should be able to play your handicap on. Fun course, pace of play was good, club house staff were super friendly, and the course itself was in great condition. March 26, 2013
Excellent condition - fairways lush and greeen - greens rolled great - not too fast but very smooth Fro the price in Phoenix in March this was an outstanding value. We played a fouresome in 3 hr 40 min could not have been better March 25, 2013
Pricey but worth the $ Old style Robert Trent Jones Sr. Course. Mature trees, mature greens and excellent playing conditions all around. Lots of contoured greens well bunkered, but fair due to slower holding greens. If you want a break from the desert target courses in the area, play here. March 23, 2013
Blue course is good for the average golfer. Other than on one short par three, the greens were good. The fairways were very good and firm for good distance. The sand traps do need more sand. The course is pretty open and forgiving other than the two short par threes with island type features. Over all a very enjoyable round. March 23, 2013
Course is Beautiful Course in Excellent Condition, Greens and fairways were perfect. Staff was awesome. The only negative was the sand traps need to be raked more. There is a lot of them. March 23, 2013
Overall experience was very good. The fairways and greens were in great shape. A couple tee boxes could use some TLC but the majority were in great shape. The course was not overly long but keeping the ball on fairways is a bonus due to trees lining the fairways. The only peeves I have would be there's no 150 markers or any other yard markers to at least give a better read to the greens. You don't have to be a scratch golfer to play here. I would definitely play this course again. March 19, 2013
Green need to be mowed A few years ago, I was a regular at Wigwam but I had never played the Red course that I recall. The course was not in great shape but not terrible shape. The biggest problem is that they hardly have any water to drink and the greens really need to be mowed. I would recommend people play the Gold Course before playing this one. March 18, 2013
Wigwam Gold is in great shape! We enjoyed a fast paced game with 3 players. The grass on the fairways is greener than last month, the greens are plush. They are much slower than other courses around this area because they have more grass! The bunkers (all 79 of them) are still lurking and snagging us with regularity. Makes you think about target golf for sure. A great day on a great course. March 16, 2013
Outdated and in poor shape Wigwam Gold has potential as a challenging, in town alternative to many of the areas desert courses. However the entire resort has a 1970s feel to it and the course condition was subpar at best with green speeds in the 5-7 stimp range. The layout is promising but much attention to condition and a face lift is needed before this course will be ranked in the top public courses in Arizona again. Your $100 green fee can be much better spent elsewhere March 15, 2013
Trees, water and sand all come into play - fun to play The course has a traditional setting and greens are well bunkered. There is water through out the course and the mature trees do come into play if you stray. The bunkers do vary in consistancy of the sand, but are part of the fun of playing this course. Definitely will return to play again. March 14, 2013
Interesting greens. Strange hole sequencing. Lousy bunkers. Course is short and starts out with Par 5,3,5,3,5... 70 bunkers but only enough sand for 35! Fairways and greens in very good shape. Greens were challenging. Typical RT Jones contouring. Need to hit to the right spots or what seem like good shots end up far from the target. Good challenge for short game improvement. March 12, 2013
From tee to green great conditions. The course has great features that challenge you to use every club in your bag. Heres a hint; many of the greens are elevated so front pin half club more, back pin full club more. All of us enjoyed the round and the food and drinks afterwards. March 10, 2013
This course is very average. Very average course for Az.. The pace of play was brutally slow. The Marshals were not engaged in the pace of play. Very poor experience. March 6, 2013
crazy fast greens Green grass and mature trees showcase the Red Course. The greens were some of the fastest played this trip. Don't be above the hole. March 5, 2013
Long from tips. want to play in summer. greens were fast and dried from the wind, so made approach shots tricky. Pins were cut in tough spots. Excellent fairways and staff was friendly. March 1, 2013
Disappointing This course is in need of some care. Combined with a basic layout, made this an underwhelming experience. February 27, 2013
Great Staff Fairways and bunkers in great condition. Greens were very thin, not much grass. Probably one of the worst practice facilities I have ever seen. Driving range was all dirt, putting green hadn't been attended to for some time. Dirt and debris all over it. February 25, 2013
Course was in need of upkeep There was no grass on greens. Fairways were not kept up. A real challenge to find bag drop and start of Heritage course. Staff was fine. February 25, 2013
Green are tuff but course was in great hape playing Wigwam was a great challenge had a great time and everyone was very friendly next time in Phoenix I would play it again. February 24, 2013
good course - but... Good layout. Greens very hard and rarely held even with short irons. Pace of play was slow. February 24, 2013
very fast greens.....but in very good shape The course was in very good condition. Lots of big trees and many greens with narrow openings; which require a good wedge game. A challenging track! February 23, 2013
Needs work Played the Blue course. Greens were as hard as a rock. Not receptive at all and very brown. Bunkers were concrete with a thin layer of dust/sand on the top. Bunker shots would land and roll out 40 feet and through the green. Same with approach shots and short wedges. Soften up the bunkers OR the greens but having both be like a table top made the round incredibly unpleasant. Given how many other choices there are in the area, I won't be back. February 23, 2013
