Somewhat Arrogant Members I have played this course a couple of times because it is very close to my home. Each time I have played, one or more of the regular members are somewhat arrogant and rude. They clearly do not like outsiders playing there course. Yesterday our foursome was yelled at by a member asking us to "Hurry the heck up". Of course we could not play any faster as there was another foursome in front of us playing at the same pace. We played the round in exactly four hours. I will never play this course again as there members are rude. March 28, 2013
To difficult for the average golfer - greens not receptive to good shots. The only thing made the round worth playing, was being paired up with a great family of three other golfers. I had read the previous reviews and concur with their comments. It started at the Bag Drop Area where there were no Staff to take my clubs. It appears they were all used in preparing for a 1 p.m. Scramble Event, and forgot there were other golfers booked for that day. Although the course lay-out was pretty good, the majority of the holes are to long for the average golfer, and what makes it even more difficult is that the greens are much to hard and do not hold on your approach shots to the green. I am a 2-hdcp golfer and had great difficulty in trying to hold the greens with my approach shots. Well hit shots to front or middle pins bounced high and rolled off the back of the fast and undulating greens. There was absolutely no way to get shots to land close to pins unless you played short of the greens and got lucky with the bounce and roll. There are several really long par 4's on this course and no way to get the ball to stop on the greens, even hitting short irons into them for better players. Average golfer's would be hitting fairway woods or rescue clubs into them with no chance. Unless you had played there before, it was difficult to navigate around the course to find the next hole as no signs were used to direct you to the next tee. The distance from tees to many of the fairways is to great for average golfers which requires lots of time looking for mishit shots. The greens were quite fast for average golfers and with the undulations, make three and four putts quite common if you do not like fast greens when putting. Good speed for a tournament event, but slows up play again for average golfers. At the end of the round, again there were no Staff Members to assist in cleaning clubs, bag removal, or taking the back to the Bag Drop area for pick-up. Ironically, they have signs posted that say, "No bags allowed on the Patio Area" so we had to carry out bags around the club house to the parking area and then come back to the Patio for drinks. Not very golfer friendly in my opinion. Overall, the lay-out was good, the greens are to hard, the Staff was not available to assist before or after play with clubs, and I would say the Club Manager needs to have a meeting with his Staff, add some directional signs to tees on the course, and make the course more golfer friendly. There are better courses to play in the area for the money that are more golfer friendly and more enjoyable to play, especially for the average golfer. March 27, 2013
This courses greens were super fast. Hard to hold a good shot into it. Great Course. Plenty of challenging holes. Very playable. The greens were super fast and not receptive to good high shots right onto the green. They always ran off the back. So you had to hit a distance in front of the green and let the rough slow the ball down to have a chance of staying on the green. Sometime the sand traps did not allow this. Overall the service was great especially the Drink Cart attendant. March 14, 2013
Not so good There was no starter. Also, I had to keep running to check on start time. There were no announcements for the golfers . T boxes are marked horribly. Putting greens were like concrete and grey looking. March 8, 2013
Course ok, but staff needs direction. No one at bag drop. Cashier at proshop seemed bothered and confused. No marshall on the course. We left on 14 after 5 1/4 hours of slow play. March 6, 2013
Well manicured... A beautiful course...we ended up playing a 5-hour round as they did not pair us (a twosome) with anyone. We were sandwiched between two foursomes ahead of us and on behind. Only one sand trap needed attention.v March 5, 2013
Nice layout Course played really fast especially the greens. Hard to hold shots on the greens. For someone new, the course is a little hard to navigate with respect to knowing where the next hole and tee are. Also, although yardages on sprinkler heads, there are still times when it's hard to get a good yardage. Never saw a ranger although pace of play was okay given this was a shotgun start in the PM. February 21, 2013
ok with caveats, course is nice enough, but for the price I paid which was $80 I would try others before i would go back We played on a day with a tournament which was not an issue. Practice facilities and staff were very nice although we had to wander to the first tee and just start. No starter and no guidance even though they said they would come and get us. I think we were the first foursome after the shotgun so I understand. Overall the course was nice, but for the discounted $80 price no deal and I certainly would not pay that to play again before trying others. February 20, 2013
Would certainly recommend this course. Loved the course- the fairviews were in great condition, the greens were in good shape- fast and true. The driving range needed some work. The other facilities for practice- sand, putting and pitching were excellent. Staff went out of their way to be helpful.Only negative was the pace of play- slow. This may have been do to the fact that we played on President's Day. On a few hole adjacent to the driving range there dozens of range balls just off the fairway makinf it very difficult to find your own mishit ball.Would happily play this course again. February 20, 2013
Nice coarse to play Overall, nice challenging holes but greens fast. I would play again at quoted rates & tee times available. February 20, 2013
Good course to start vacation Not a super hard course. You don't have to carry over to many landing areas. Pretty much what you see is what you get. The greens were very fast, but didn't seem to have a full cover of grass on them. Pretty good layout with some well bunkered greens. Some of the greens were tiny and the 18th was as big as a football field. Overall it was a good experience and I would return. We had to fly thru the last 4 holes and finished about dark. February 18, 2013
Beautiful desert course We thou rightly enjoyed this course. We will return again. Course conditions were above expectations. February 17, 2013
Very busy in season, Beautiful property-Forgiving An enjoyable round, a very walkable course green to tee, clearly designed for the Seasonal visitor to have a "good and easy game". Very forgiving wide fairways and minimal sand with water in play only on #7. Approaches aren't the most challenging, but #9 really shines. #5 is well chosen as number one handicap hole, almost out of place compared to the mediocrity of the rest of the course. Sand traps tended to be hard pan on the bottom. The slope is over rated. Overall a nice coarse, but like many heavily played courses, the greens take a beating form discourteous wannabe golfers that have no concept of ball mark repair and respect for the course. Unfortunately, this isn't a problem exclusive to Tatum Ranch. Daytime play is slow and heavy, 4.5-5 hours is the norm unless you're out last for the afternoon and play the front twice, easily sub 3.5 hours for 4 on carts or sub 3 hours for 2 on carts. Staff was generally friendly and helpful. The Practice facility is excellent which includes a grass range, two putting greens, as well as a green for chipping and bunker practice. PS--There is no convenient access to the pro shop through the front of the club house as it also houses a bar and restaurant, the pro shop is actually on the course side of the restaurant. One needs to walk to the end of the parking lot and circumnavigate the restaurant to access checkin and the starter. February 9, 2013
Mised the beverage cart Without the beverage cart, they need to leave food shack at the turn open. February 7, 2013
Nice course. Semi private A nice course with all the amenities of a private course. Good shape with very fast greens. A little pricy for me but we got a great deal on golf now. I would play again if the price is right. February 4, 2013
If you want to stay private, then don't invite the public Great course, superb shape, but the staff made us feel very unwelcome. To the point that we stopped after 9 holes. If you can overcome that, them it is good value. February 2, 2013
Great condition This golf course is in great shape. The greens were running at about 12 or 13 on the stemp meter. The staff very friendly & helpful. We played in about 4 hrs in perfect weather conditions. Will be back if the price is around 50 or 60 dollars. The regular price a little to high for the average golfer. All concedering a great day. January 31, 2013
Friendly semi private Both the members and staff were very friendly. Course was in good shape. Layout is great for a small piece of land. Designer Bob Cupp did a great job making this the most fair desert layout i have played. The greens demand precise approach shots even with the absence of greenside sand traps. Really fun layout. January 29, 2013
Loved the whole place. great facility, club house and pro shop. i will look for this course again and again on golfnow, com in the future when i am back in the area. thanks for listing it or i would never have played there! January 22, 2013
Club house, staff, snack shack very good Even though they had a frost delay we actually started at our tee time, 12:03PM. Staff was great getting everyone out. Greens were great, very fast. Fairways also in great shape. We had a great time, finished in 3 1/2 hours. January 15, 2013
Nice greens Farley forgiving nice greens not stupid fast. But a good track January 12, 2013
Your ball may land on the green but will roll off onto the fringe, into the bunker or back onto the fairway. Pin placement was challenging as was the roll of the greens. January 8, 2013
Challenging sand traps and tricky greens ! Great golf course and fair challenge. We had a beautiful day, staff was great. January 8, 2013
A must play before OB sport closes this window. I can tell you that this course is trying very hard to fill it membership. "Excellent" in every aspect of this course. We played on Monday the 7th 2013 at 9:38 tee time and finished the round in 3:40 mins. You need to bring a desert club as it is playable when your off the fairways" pea gravel " I can tell you this bring your "A" putting game, the greens were rolling at 12. Pool table fast and the other think is that the carts do not have GPS so bring your own GPS or a lazer. You will need it for fast play. This is a private course so if you can get on, do so. Lastly we did not have a cart girl out on that Monday but we did stop at the turn and the prices were reasonable. If all OB managed courses are run like this I would play them everyday. Hands down awesome for the price January 8, 2013
Beautiful Course This was a great course for the money! Our tee time was 2:38 pm so we only got to play 12 holes before it got too dark, but those were 12 delightful holes on a beautiful course. So the money we paid was well worth the 12 holes. I'd love to play this course again. January 5, 2013
Greens awesome, fairways perfect, spectacular desert views The course was in great shape, moved along at a good pace (no waiting) and we were treated like royalty by all staff that we encountered. Nicest clubhouse i have seen in a while December 31, 2012
I like the course and the condition was better than expected. I will play this course again if the special golf fee is about the same. Standard rate is too high. December 26, 2012
Great Shape Course was in great shape, but they are some of the toughest greens in the valley. Fast, hard and difficult to read. December 24, 2012
Well maintained. Good Value Nice to play a private club. Good pace, well maintained, and great greens. The fairway was a little brown in some spots but not bad. The driving range is in the middle of two holes, which can get littered with range balls (which are white) which can make it a little annoying or difficult to identify your ball. Course is not too challenging ( no blind shots, only one water hole) so it will be fun for all levels December 17, 2012
Good quality course for the money and very playable for a range of handicaps The course was in excellent condition with faster than normal greens. The course is very playable but is challenging enough for single digit handicappers. It is a very good course for a range of handicaps. It will not frustrate your golf game or your wallet. One of the best values in the Phoenix area for the quality. December 14, 2012
