One of the most popular "off-island" golf courses in the Hilton Head Island area, Eagle's Pointe Golf Club is known for its great design, Southern hospitality and good value. Located in Bluffton, the course, which opened for play in 1998, was designed by major champion and former Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III. It's one of the area's most environmentally friendly layouts, using the natural environment of wetlands in its design while preserving wildlife and native vegetation like the mature pines and Spanish-moss-covered oaks that were there before the golf course. The coastal wetlands come into play on most of the holes of this par-71, which plays 6,782 yards from the tips. The course, however, has four sets of tees, playing as short as 5,112 yards, which means there's a set of tee boxes for every level of player. The greens have plenty of undulation, so a good short game is a must. The fairways are generous, but finding the right parts of it are critical to attacking pins. And there are lots of good risk-reward holes, especially the par 5s for longer hitters. Eagle's Pointe also offers excellent practice facilities that include a full grass driving range, short-game area and practice putting green. And both individual and group lessons are also available. Inside the clubhouse is a robust golf shop, offering all the latest apparel, accessories and equipment. And the restaurant at Eagle's Pointe is open daily, offering specials that draw golfers and non golfers alike.
